Even though Clemson doesn\u2019t have an NCAA tournament win since 1997, the Tigers seem to have a little more credibility in this game; playing in the gauntlet ACC and having a good regular season win over Florida State on Jan. 29. <\/p>\n

Both of these teams are rather uninspiring at-large tourney selections, but Clemson looks to move on courtesy of rebounding from Jerai Grant and Devin Booker, as well as excellent guard play from Demontez Stitt.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s true that UAB head coach Mike Davis took the Indiana Hoosiers to the national championship game in 2002, but the Conference USA-rep Blazers are a far cry from a storied Big Ten program built by legendary coach Bobby Knight. The Blazers are capable of playing strong interior defense as they have players with some length, but offensively they are more of a plodding team. \"The<\/a><\/p>\n

If Stitt can carve through UAB defenders, it should give the Tigers a tangible edge. Clemson\u2019s more dynamic attack also means that the Tigers will get to the charity stripe, which is penultimate in every-possession-counts tournament hoops. It is noted that UAB is not effective at getting to the line, so it must hope to disrupt Clemson\u2019s rhythm and pull out in front sizably to feel safe.<\/p>\n

These are both bubble teams, but many fans and media were talking about Clemson making the Big Dance. Alabama-Birmingham, conversely, has not been a welcome pick of the Selection Committee. Both squads have plenty to prove on Tuesday in Dayton; there\u2019s certainly an uphill battle for whoever wins this game. <\/p>\n

Clemson seems to have a leg up in enough small aspects of the game to emerge victorious.<\/p>\n
