I have to admit, I thought that the Leafs were ready to mail it in after three straight losses but a win on Saturday has me a semi-believer. Tampa Bay comes to town in a brutal 1-4-2 skid that has seen them drop to fifth in the Eastern Conference. Could it be that the Leafs have caught the Lightning at precisely the right time?<\/p>\n<p>Tama Bay is losing touch with the Washington Capitals and are now in a dogfight to get home ice in the playoffs. It\u2019s a bit hard to figure out why \u2013 the offensive statistics have been good and the goaltending, statistically has been pretty good.<\/p>\n<p>Tampa is the seventh ranked offense in the NHL with an average of 2.9 goals for per game. Steven Stamkos and Martin St. Louis have been good \u2013 both have five points in their last two games. Whispers are that the injuries of second-liners Steve Downie and Ryan Malone is hurting the balance of the club.<\/p>\n<p>Tampa\u2019s defense and goaltending is hit or miss. Dwayne Roloson has been prone to blowups this season but is 1-1-1 in his last three games with a tidy 1.91 goals against average. Against Toronto, Roloson is 5-1-0 with a 1.47 goals against average in his last six games. <iframe allowtransparency='true' src='http:\/\/ff.connextra.com\/Bodog\/selector\/client?client=Bodog&#038;placement=Ext_RS_Sports_250x250&#038;cxt_aff_id=151627&#038;tclk=http:\/\/www.bodog.eu\/welcome\/151627\/' class=\"alignleft\" style=\"margin: 1px; border: 3px solid #FFFFFF;\" width='250' height='250' scrolling='no' frameborder='0' style='border-width:0'><\/iframe>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Toronto won\u2019t go away \u2013 the buzz in town seems to be carrying the Leafs. They are 11-4-5 in their last 20 games and if they are not winning, they are picking up a valuable point in overtime or shootout. The Leafs are a dangerous team \u2013 just ask the Buffalo Sabres.<\/p>\n<p>Toronto still has one of the worst offenses in the League. After not showing up for the Leafs winless streak last week, the top line did all the damage on Saturday. Phil Kessel is a streaky guy and when he is on, he is a force. Mikhail Grabovski has also been good as has Clarke MacArthur who scored his 20th the other night.<\/p>\n<p>Defensively, Leafs fans have to hope that the recently inconsistent James Reimer brings his \u201cA-Game\u201d to the rink on Monday.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Betting Prediction:<\/strong> The Tampa Bay Lightning are 16-13-4 on the road this season and have won all three games against the Leafs this season. Tampa is 8-1-2 in their last eleven games against the Leafs. Toronto is 16-13-7 at home this season.<\/p>\n<p>It is kind of astounding that the Leafs are favored in this game. Still, with hope still alive, I expect the Leafs to take advantage of a Lightning team that has lost its touch on the Southeast Division and is just looking to make it through the rest of the season.
