Are the Spartans really up against the Boilermakers in the second round of the Big Ten Tournament? Indeed, if we had projected this tournament before the season started this would have probably been most people\u2019s pick for the final game, but it hasn\u2019t turned out that way. The Michigan State Spartans squeaked past the Iowa Hawkeyes yesterday to put themselves in slightly better shape as far as their NCAA Tournament bubble standing. <\/p>\n

Purdue is coming off a disappointing loss to Iowa in the regular season finale, and Matt Painter\u2019s team will be looking to put the Spartans down early.<\/p>\n

Tom Izzo\u2019s Michigan State Spartans team wasn\u2019t impressive at all on Thursday, but they did pick up the win. The Spartans were beaten badly by Purdue in both regular season meetings, so they\u2019ll need to change something up for this matchup. Just a couple weeks ago Purdue beat Michigan State by 20 points in East Lansing. Michigan State\u2019s Draymond Green has been their most consistent contributor this year. Green is averaging 12.5 points and 8.5 rebounds per game. <\/p>\n

Green also leads the Spartans in assists, so he is a very skilled big man. Kalin Lucas is struggling with recurring injuries and he just hasn\u2019t been the same player this year. Delvon Roe and Durrell Summers were two guys that were expected to have a huge year, but both have been very disappointing. <\/p>\n

Can the Spartans avoid the careless turnovers that have cost them for much of this year? \"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Purdue\u2019s JaJuan Johnson has been the most consistent player in the Big Ten this year. Johnson averaged 20.6 points and 8.2 rebounds per game during the regular season. He shot an impressive 50% from the floor, and he connected on 81% of his free throw attempts. E\u2019Twaun Moore is another star for this Boilers team. Moore averaged 18.3 points per game during the regular season, and he showed what he was capable of when he torched Ohio State for 38 points in February. <\/p>\n

The problem this year for Purdue has been finding a third guy option on the offensive end. Ryne Smith is a solid shooter and he has contributed nicely down the stretch, and Lewis Jackson has gotten more aggressive at the point guard spot. Purdue has been able to stay in every game this year because of their terrific defense. <\/p>\n

The Boilermakers are allowing just 61 points per game this year.<\/p>\n
