The Carmelo Anthony era is off to a middling start in New York. Can the Knicks finally get some momentum going when the Utah Jazz come to town on Monday evening?<\/p>\n

New York (31-29, 36-22-2 ATS) is just 3-3 since its big shakeup at the trade deadline. The Knicks just can\u2019t build any momentum, as they\u2019ve flipped between wins and losses for six consecutive games. New York has been fairly kind to NBA betting fans lately, though, going 3-1 ATS in its last four games. That loss came in Friday\u2019s embarrassing 119-115 loss to Cleveland, however.<\/p>\n

The Anthony blockbuster and a few signings led to six new players in New York uniforms. The unfamiliarity with each other is having a seriously major effect on the defense. It their past three losses, the Knicks have allowed 115, 116 and 119 points\u2014with two of those scores coming against the woeful Cavaliers. Certainly that\u2019s going to have to change if the Knicks are serious about a playoff run. \"Online<\/p>\n

Utah (33-30, 26-36-1 ATS), meanwhile, is completely falling apart. The team has just two victories in its past 10 outings, not to mention a brutal 2-8 record against the spread. Utah beat Sacramento 109-102 on Saturday, but it lost its fourth consecutive game against the spread.<\/p>\n

The Jazz\u2019s spiral isn\u2019t terribly surprising, since head coach Jerry Sloan recently retired and the club shipped off its franchise player in Deron Williams. The net result has been struggles in close games. With Sloan and at the helm, Utah was 9-3 straight up in games decided by five points or fewer; since then, the team is 0-4 (0-2 since Williams was shipped to New Jersey).<\/p>\n

It\u2019s obvious neither team is especially comfortable at the moment, but the Knicks certainly have more upside. Their erractic play is the result of adding a ton of talent to the mix, but needing to define roles. Utah, on the other hand, just jettisoned its best player and head coach. Take the Knicks at home, as they should grow more comfortable with each other with every game.<\/p>\n
