IN THE NIGHTCAP<\/strong> of the TNT doubleheader, the Jazz and Nuggets continue the process of trying to remain relevant in the NBA without superstars. <\/p>\n

The Western Conference playoff situation usually goes down to the wire before resolving itself in the final week, and this season the same scenario is playing out. And the injury to Kevin Durant last night only muddies the waters even more, as there is expected to be a wild scramble among the Jazz, Nuggets, Memphis, New Orleans, Phoenix and maybe even the Thunder \u2013 for five playoff spots. \"Sports<\/a><\/p>\n

So tonight\u2019s game has some meaning, especially for the Jazz as they try to develop some chemistry \u2013 especially at home, where they have the worst record (17-14) of any Western Conference contender. The Jazz were able to put up 27 points in the final period of their last game \u2013 a five-point loss at home to Boston on Monday \u2013 but without Deron Williams they were unable to execute their half-court offense at crucial times.<\/p>\n

The Nuggets, meanwhile, are full of piss and vinegar and feeling free at last. They are 4-1 since Carmelo Anthony traded himself out of town, and playing defense never before seen in Colorado. They held Atlanta and Charlotte to an average of 85 points in winning their last two games, and they came one bad offensive possession short of beating Portland on the road (losing in overtime). They look like a team delighted not to be carrying around a thousand-pound weight anymore. <\/p>\n
