Sports News – NBA news: Clippers trade Baron Davis to Cavaliers; Hawks acquire Kirk Hinrich<\/strong><\/p>\n

Clippers trade Baron Davis to Cavaliers<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

The NBA is still swirling with activity leading up to the trade deadline. Today, the Los Angeles Clippers shipped Baron Davis and a 2011 first-round pick to Cleveland for Mo Williams and Jamario Moon. Davis averaged 17-plus points per game for seven straight seasons before slipping to just 12.8 this season. He\u2019ll be reunited with former coach Byron Scott.<\/p>\n

Atlanta made a move yesterday, picking up Kirk Hinrich and Hilton Armstrong from the Washington Wizards for Mike Bibby, rookie guard Jordan Crawford, Maurice Evans and a 2011 first-round pick. Hinrich, the key to the deal, averages 11.1 points and 4.4 assists this season.<\/p>\n

NHL news: Alexei Kovalev traded back to Pittsburgh; Ducks, Lightning swap backup goalies; Peter Stastny furious with son\u2019s team<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Pittsburgh Penguins are without Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin because of injuries but they\u2019re high enough in the standings that they can\u2019t give up on icing a playoff-ready roster. After adding James Neal and Matt Niskanen via trade earlier this week, they acquired Alex Kovalev from the Ottawa Senators for a seventh-round pick.<\/p>\n

Kovalev, who turned 38 today, had just 27 points in 54 games with the Sens this year. However, he had a very successful tenure with Pittsburgh from 1998 to 2003 and should be welcomed with open arms.<\/p>\n

Evidently not too confident in Ray Emery\u2019s ability to back up injured Jonas Hiller in goal, the Anaheim Ducks acquired some extra goalie help today. They shipped backup Curtis McElhinney for more proven Tampa backup Dan Ellis.<\/p>\n

What\u2019s going on in Colorado? Most experts believe something else happening behind closed doors fuelled the Avs\u2019 curious trade of Chris Stewart, Kevin Shattenkirk and a second-rounder to St. Louis for Erik Johnson, Jay McClement and a first-rounder. Avalanche center Paul Stastny\u2019s Hall-of-Fame father, Peter, couldn\u2019t help but lash out yesterday. \"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Peter Stastny claimed that the trade \u201cmoved the team about two to three years back.\u201d He added that he thought Colorado was becoming a Stanley Cup contender but that the trade \u201cdestroyed the team.\u201d Daddy\u2019s angry.<\/p>\n

NFL news: Rex Ryan, Mike Tannenbaum appearing on CSI:NY; League to use new sideline concussion test<\/strong><\/p>\n

Rex Ryan just can\u2019t stay away from the spotlight, can he? The Jets coach and general manager Mike Tannenbaum have both agreed to appear in a spring episode of CSI: New York <\/em>on CBS.<\/p>\n

The NFL announced yesterday that it will use a new sideline test next season to determine if players have been concussed during games. The test will check traditional symptoms and perform neurological and balance evaluations.<\/p>\n

MLB news: Tommy John surgery for Adam Wainwright<\/strong><\/p>\n

The St. Louis Cardinals feared the worst about ace starter Adam Wainwright\u2019s elbow and those fears have been officially realized. Wainwright will undergo Tommy John surgery and will miss the entire 2011 season. Does this mean the Cards will struggle to contend in the National League Central? And does it mean they\u2019ll consider renting out soon-to-be unrestricted free agent Albert Pujols come July?<\/p>\n

NCAA basketball news: Chris Wright has surgery on broken hand but expects to return<\/strong><\/p>\n

The No. 11 Georgetown Hoyas will be without a key cog in their machine for the next while but the news isn\u2019t all bad. Guard Chris Wright, who averages 13.1 points this season, broke his left hand yesterday and had surgery to repair it today. He still expects to return to game action this season, perhaps in time for March Madness.<\/p>\n
