Home-court playoff edge in the Eastern Conference is more important this year than it has been in previous seasons, and the top three teams in the East \u2013 Boston, Miami and Chicago \u2013 are all in action tonight as the post-All Star Game season gets under way in earnest. A look at the road to the playoffs for the Heat, Bulls and Celtics: <\/p>\n

***After tonight against the Bulls and a layup at home vs. Washington, the Heat begin a very interesting stretch with six consecutive games against winning teams \u2013 New York, Orlando, at San Antonio, Chicago, Portland and the Lakers. Miami (42-15) is one game in back of Boston, but needs to beat the Celtics outright to get a playoff edge because the Celtics have already won the season series and the C\u2019s appear to have the Heat spooked. \"Sports<\/a><\/p>\n

***The Bulls have Joakim Noah back, but they laid an egg earlier this week at Toronto, and at 38-17 they can ill afford to be caught napping against any second-tier teams with both the Heat and Celtics headed toward 61- or 62-win seasons. The question for Tom Thobodeau to answer is whether he wants to limit Derrick Rose\u2019s minutes down the stretch, especially since at this point the Bulls probably can\u2019t finish lower than the No. 3 seed. <\/p>\n

But a lot of that can be attributed to working Noah back into the lineup, and he figures to go 30-plus minutes tonight. With both teams digging in, points will be at a premium in Chicago.
