The All-Star Game champion has alternated for five straight years, with the East taking the most recent game 141-139 last year.

The Eastern Conference starting five looks pretty formidable this season. In fact, you could make a case that four of the top five current league MVP candidates are from the East: Derrick Rose, LeBron James, Amar’e Stoudemire and Dwight Howard. The East also has four of the Boston Celtics’ starting five as its bench. That’s pretty impressive. Kevin Durant, the NBA’s leading scorer, suits up for the West, but the East has the No. 2 and No. 3 guys in LeBron and Stoudemire.

Western Conference (23-26 all-time)

The Western Conference’s lineup may not be as star-studded as the East’s, with the likes of Kevin Love, Russell Westbrook and Manu Ginobili making the squad, but that really doesn’t matter in an All-Star Game. Both teams are stacked with talent.

It’s worth noting that the All-Star Game features little to no defense. That’s important because, whereas the East features guys who thrive in gritty situations – Kevin Garnett, Dwight Howard, Rajon Rondo, and so on – the West arguably has the better pure scorers. Nobody puts the ball in the basket like Kobe Bryant, Kevin Durant, Carmelo Anthony and even Dirk Nowitzki. With the trademark East defense not really bearing its teeth in Sunday’s fluff-fest, we could see some big numbers from the West.

The pick:

Another crucial factor for bettors to consider this Sunday: the venue. The game takes place at Staples Center, home of the Lakers and the Clippers. That means two guys should have extra fanfare on their side: Kobe Bryant and Blake Griffin.

Bryant is no stranger to coming up big in All-Star Games; he’s a three-time All-Star Game MVP. So we can expect him to ride his raucous home supporters and thrive this Sunday. Same goes for Griffin. The sensational rookie has been on a tear all season and he really just seems to love the game, as evidenced by his decision to participate on the Friday (Rookie/Sophomore game), Saturday (Slam Dunk Contest) and Sunday of All-Star weekend. I bet Griffin will play hard all three nights and treat the home crowd to some emphatic slams in the All-Star Game.

Factoring in the West’s pseudo home court advantage and its natural scoring ability, I think it takes the title back this year. If this was a real NBA game, I’d absolutely pick the East, but the Western Conference is better equipped to win a loose game like we’ll see Sunday.

NBA All-Star Game prediction: Western Conference 144, Eastern Conference 135

CLICK HERE TO VIEW OUR TOP NBA CAPPERS PREDICTIONS FOR TODAY!

Shea Matthews points out BetUS.com released a series of betting odds and propositions for the 2011 NBA All Star Game, which takes place in Los Angeles Saturday.

[12
44807,45093,44808,45094,10346,184,44809,13022,186,187,9255,24160,744,4028,1596,45095
post-34242","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-nba","tag-2011-nba-allstar-game","tag-2011-nba-lines","tag-60th-annual-nba-all-star-game","tag-all-star-east-odds","tag-all-star-game-props","tag-betus","tag-betus-articles","tag-betus-nba-odds","tag-betus-sportsbook","tag-betuscom","tag-east-vs-west","tag-eastern-conference-vs-western-conference","tag-nba-betting","tag-nba-betting-preview","tag-prop-bets","tag-west-all-star-odds
["GET
