The Phoenix Suns and the Golden State Warriors tangle for the second time in four nights. Will the outcome be any different as the teams switch to a new location for competition?<\/p>\n

This is a quick reunion, one of the oddities of the NBA\u2019s schedule. It\u2019s so bizarre that in a 30-team league with 82-game regular-season slates (that\u2019s more than 2,400 professional basketball games tucked into just under six months, or an average of well over 400 games per month), two clubs must play each other twice in half a week. <\/p>\n

It\u2019s almost as though certain squads should just be allowed to play all their regular-season games against each other and just be done with it. At any rate, the schedule maker says that Phoenix and Golden State must play on Thursday in Phoenix after dueling on Monday evening in Oakland. Phoenix took that tilt by a 104-92 score. Now the scene shifts from the Bay Area to the Desert Southwest, and we\u2019ll see what the Warriors are able to do in response to their 12-point loss on Feb. 7.<\/p>\n

How Golden State Can Win<\/strong><\/p>\n

It\u2019s an \u201ceasy to say, hard to do\u201d situation for Golden State in this contest. The Warriors are on the back end of a dreaded \u201cback-to-back\u201d set, the bane of many an NBA team\u2019s existence. These two-game, two-day sequences are hard enough as it is, but when both games are played at home, they\u2019re manageable. This isn\u2019t such a case. The Warriors played Denver late Wednesday and dug out a 116-114 win over the Nuggets and the traveling Carmelo Anthony trade discussion drama in Oakland. \"The<\/a><\/p>\n

The Warriors had to cross a time zone on a red-eye flight to Phoenix and will play this game roughly 20 hours after their Denver duel ended. The Warriors struggle enough with defense as it is \u2013 they cough up 106 points per outing and didn\u2019t exactly limit Denver last night. How they\u2019ll find the fresh legs and the intensity needed to hold down Phoenix on short rest is a mystery. The Warriors need a big game from their bench against the Suns, but this team\u2019s never been particularly deep. At any rate, it has to reach into the well and find something special.<\/p>\n

How Phoenix Can Win<\/strong><\/p>\n

Since Phoenix hasn\u2019t played since its Monday win over Golden State, coach Alvin Gentry\u2019s Suns need to play the first half to set up the second. Phoenix won\u2019t win this game in the first quarter, but it will win it in the third and fourth stanzas by wearing down the Golden State starters and taking away the Warriors\u2019 weary legs. <\/p>\n

Pushing the pace but also making Golden State guard in halfcourt sets will be important for the Suns. Spreading the floor and forcing the Warriors to contest shots at all spots on the court will tire out Golden State heading into the fourth quarter.<\/p>\n

Outlook<\/strong><\/p>\n

Yes, Phoenix will run. Yes, Golden State will tire out. Everything you think about this game, and everything you\u2019re inclined to believe about this game, will take place. The Suns are rested, and while neither one of these teams plays defense, Phoenix will have a lot more energy in the tank. That might not show up in the first 24 minutes, but it will emerge after halftime. <\/p>\n
