Today’s Sports News – NBA news: Carmelo Anthony would consider extension in Denver; Cavaliers tie pro sports futility record<\/strong><\/p>\n

Carmelo Anthony would consider extension in Denver<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

After all the Carmelo Anthony trade hoop-la, could the superstar wind up staying with the Denver Nuggets after all?<\/p>\n

He recently said that he would \u201ctake a real hard look\u201d at signing a contract extension with the Nuggets if he isn\u2019t dealt by the deadline this season. A report from The Denver Post <\/em>suggests that the chances of Anthony not getting traded are \u201cbetter than average.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Cleveland Cavaliers are one loss away from becoming professional sports\u2019 ultimate losers. At 26 games, they already own the new NBA record for the longest losing streak. But with that 26th<\/sup> loss, they tied the NFL\u2019s 1976-77 Tampa Bay Buccaneers for the longest losing streak in any major pro sport. A 27th<\/sup> loss would have the Cavs standing alone.<\/p>\n

NHL news: Maple Leafs trade Francois Beauchemin to Ducks; Blackhawks, Panthers swing multi-player deal; Matt Cooke suspended; Chris Drury out six weeks<\/strong><\/p>\n

It\u2019s been a busy 24 hours in the NHL. The first domino leading up to the NHL trade deadline has fallen. The Toronto Maple Leafs traded veteran blueliner Francois Beauchemin back to his previous team, the Anaheim Ducks. In return, Toronto received enigmatic sniper Joffrey Lupul, defensive prospect (and former first-rounder) Jake Gardiner and a conditional fourth-round draft pick in 2013.<\/p>\n

The Chicago Blackhawks and Florida Panthers completed a five-player trade today. Chicago received forward Michael Frolik and goaltender Alexander Salak; Florida got Jack Skille, Hugh Jessiman and David Pacan. While Skille and Jessiman were once considered top prospects, Frolik is the big name in the deal. The former 10th<\/sup> overall pick has 29 points in 52 games this season.<\/p>\n

NFL news: League, Players Association cancel meeting; Carson Palmer to put house up for sale<\/strong><\/p>\n

The NFL and the Players Association met for a long session yesterday to hammer away at negotiations for the next collective bargaining agreement. They also held a session this past Saturday for the first time since November. <\/p>\n

The sides are hoping to strike a deal in time to save the 2011 season but for now, they\u2019re stepping back. They were supposed to meet for five hours today but the meeting has been cancelled.<\/p>\n

The Cincinnati Bengals previously insisted that they\u2019re not trading Carson Palmer but the 31-year-old quarterback is intent on leaving. He demanded a trade and intends to retire if Cincy doesn\u2019t trade or release him. Proof he isn\u2019t bluffing; a Cincinnati TV station reported yesterday that Palmer plans to put his house up for sale.<\/p>\n

MLB news: Rockies pull out of Michael Young sweepstakes<\/strong><\/p>\n

Michael Young wants out of Texas but his ticket won\u2019t be punched for Colorado. With $48 million remaining on the third baseman\u2019s contract and Texas unwilling to eat some if any of his deal, the Rockies deemed the price too high. They\u2019ve withdrawn their offer.<\/p>\n

NCAA football news: Tate Forcier transfers to Miami<\/strong><\/p>\n

Could the Miami Hurricanes have their starter for when the Jacory Harris era ends? Tate Forcier has transferred from Michigan to Miami, figuring he won\u2019t get the Wolverines\u2019 starting quarterback job back from Denard Robinson.<\/p>\n

Forcier, who has 2,647 passing yards, 17 touchdown passes and 14 interceptions over 20 games with Michigan, won\u2019t be eligible to play for the Hurricanes until 2012. That works out fine for Miami, however, as Jacory Harris will graduate after 2011, leaving only Stephen Morris under center.<\/p>\n
