\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The bloom is off the Clippers\u2019 rose. Not a deep team by any means, the Clippers were a feel-good story through mid-January. Blake Griffin\u2019s soaring dunks finally got the team some national exposure, and there was even talk of a late-season surge that would get them into the playoffs.<\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 But it all came crashing down on Jan. 22 when leading scorer Eric Gordon suffered a sprained right wrist. Since then the Clippers are 3-5 as they continue a torturous 11-game road swing that has 8 games left, including tonight\u2019s matchup against the Knicks in Madison Square Garden. \"Online<\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The Clippers were competitive in Atlanta (losing by 1) but were spanked in Florida (losing by 18 to Miami and by 16 to Orlando). Now, with a thin rotation the Clips have to take on a Knicks team that hasn\u2019t played since Sunday and runs even after opponents\u2019 made baskets.<\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 New York, in fact, has a nice home-centric schedule heading into the All-Star break. The Knicks are two games over .500 and hope to create a little separation between themselves and Philadelphia in the scrum for playoff position. NY has little chance of catching any of the Big 4 (Boston, Miami, Chicago, Orlando) in the East, but a 5-seed would be a big boost to the franchise.<\/p>\n

Seven points is a lot to lay, but LA hasn\u2019t shown much fight on the road this season (3-18) and the vast majority of their road covers were early in the season when they were catching teams by surprise. The road has always taken a disproportionate toll on the Clippers, and this trip is daunting. The question is whether the Clippers will go balls-to-the-wall tonight trying to win a game they probably will lose, or save some energy for Friday night in Cleveland, a game they MUST win. <\/p>\n

Cleveland has lost a league-record 25 games in a row, but this weekend has two chances to half that streak \u2013 Friday vs. the Clippers and Sunday vs. Washington. If the Clippers can bring it only once in the next few days, tonight might not be the time. New York -7, with parlay players also taking the Over. <\/p>\n
