One of this year\u2019s best stories in all of college basketball will occupy part of the Saturday slate. Here’s a preview of a great college basketball contests this Saturday.<\/p>\n

The Pit in Albuquerque, New Mexico, is one of the loudest and most intimidating venues in all of college basketball. The site of the 1983 NCAA Final Four is an intimate building in which fans are right on top of the action, creating an especially jarring din that can rattle opposing players. <\/p>\n

It\u2019s true that New Mexico is struggling this season, languishing at 2-4 in the Mountain West Conference one year after winning the league\u2019s regular season championship and earning a very high No. 3 seed in the 2010 NCAA Tournament. \"The<\/a><\/p>\n

The Lobos aren\u2019t going to be very good on a regular basis \u2013 they lost two core starters from last year\u2019s excellent roster, Darington Hobson and Ramon Martinez. They still have guard Dairese Gary, but are still shorthanded. Nevertheless, they\u2019re going to put up a good fight this weekend, because the Brigham Young Cougars are in town. BYU and coach Dave Rose sit at 20-1 overall and 6-0 in the Mountain West. <\/p>\n

The Cougars just defeated previously-unbeaten San Diego State, 71-58, thanks to 43 points from the current leader in the Naismith Award (Player Of The Year) race, superstar shooter Jimmer Fredette. <\/p>\n

Three years ago Stephen Curry of Davidson took the college basketball world by storm, displaying uncommon range and consistency as a deadeye jump shooter. Fredette has evoked many comparisons with Curry while leading his team to a top-10 national ranking. New Mexico will spill the tank in an attempt to stop Fredette. <\/p>\n

As has been the case with BYU\u2019s other opponents (except for UCLA, which beat the Cougars on Dec. 18), it probably won\u2019t work. <\/p>\n
