(1) San Antonio Spurs (39-7): Currently on pace for 69 wins. The 72-10 dream isn’t dead yet.

2. (4) New Orleans Hornets (31-16): Hey – I can’t say this will keep up, but we have to give the Hornets their props for winning 10 straight games. Like the Celtics, they’re doing it with defense.

3. (2) Boston Celtics (34-10): Kevin Garnett and Kendrick Perkins are back. Hey, NBA – don’t expect to score on Boston any time soon.

4. (3) Los Angeles Lakers (33-13): Quietly going about their business and leading their division by 12 games. Kobe and company will play plenty of home games in the playoffs, so the three-peat isn’t out of the question.

5. (7) Chicago Bulls (31-14): Joakim Noah’s recovery is ahead of schedule. Chicago still has a legit chance to secure the top seed in the East.

6. (8) Orlando Magic (30-16): I don’t know about you, but Dwight Howard is my MVP if the season ends today.

7. (9) Oklahoma City Thunder (29-16): Very excited to see what Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook and Jeff Green can do in the playoffs this year. How huge was K.D.’s 47-point, 18-rebound effort Wednesday night?

8. (5) Miami Heat (31-13): “Stopped the bleeding” by snapping a four-game losing streak – but does it really count when you do it against Toronto?

9. (12) Denver Nuggets (27-18): Playing well enough lately that you have to wonder if they could make some noise in the playoffs if Melo stayed.

10. (6) Atlanta Hawks (29-17): Hot streak earlier this month was partially the product of some weak opponents. Upcoming battles with Knicks, Mavs could show their true colors.

11. (13) Portland Trail Blazers (25-21): Five straight wins before their loss this week came against the Nets, T-Wolves, Kings, Clippers and Pacers, including four home games. I’m still betting they miss the playoffs. LaMarcus Aldridge is starting to break down.

12. (15) Dallas Mavericks (29-15): Starting to turn it around? They’ve won three of four and beating the Clippers is no easy feat these days.

13. (23) Philadelphia 76ers (20-25): This franchise is going nowhere but its workmanlike lineup has beaten up on bottom feeders nicely of late.

14. (14) New York Knicks (23-21): Six-game losing streak was both scary and unexpected. Halted it against Washington but could a back-to-back against Miami and Atlanta start another skid?

15. (10) Utah Jazz (27-19): The Jazz are another team with a puzzling six-game losing streak. They have played the Celtics, Lakers and Spurs during that stretch, so maybe they’ll be OK?

16. (11) Los Angeles Clippers (17-28): Just when the Clippers are getting a taste for success – Eric Gordon goes down and they lose two straight. Sad.

17. (18) Houston Rockets (22-25): Five wins in seven games, including victories over the Hawks, Knicks and Clippers. Kevin Martin may be wildly inconsistent but, when he’s on, he can carry a team.

18. (19) Memphis Grizzlies (22-24): The Gay/Randolph combo continuously makes the Grizz annoying for contenders to play against.

19. (22) Charlotte Bobcats (19-25): Usually only beat fellow weak teams but their 8-5 record this month is nothing to sneeze at. In the East, that qualifies as a playoff push.

20. (16) Phoenix Suns (20-24): Please, Phoenix, trade Steve Nash. Don’t you want to see your boy play for a title? Doesn’t Nash want to play for a title? Or is he content directing documentaries and filming commercials with Landon Donovan?

21. (17) Golden State Warriors (19-26)
22. (24) Detroit Pistons (17-29)
23. (20) Milwaukee Bucks (17-26)
24.
