Los Angeles Clippers (17-26)<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Los Angeles Clippers hype train is in full flight; the Clips have managed to block out vile owner Donald Sterling\u2019s taunts and win seven of their last nine games, beating the spread six times over that span.<\/p>\n

The big reason for their success is, of course, Blake Griffin, who is having the greatest impact as a rookie since…Shaq? Seriously, Griffin\u2019s numbers are better than Lebron James\u2019 2003-04 numbers at the moment. Griffin is averaging 22.8 points and 12.9 rebounds per game; he has 29 double-doubles in his last 30 games; he\u2019s averaging 27.2 points and 14.5 boards in January.<\/p>\n

Griffin is also getting great help from the underrated Eric Gordon, who is quietly eighth in the league with 24.1 points per game \u2013 outscoring Dirk Nowitzki, Carmelo Anthony and Dwight Howard. Gordon is battling through some bumps and bruises, however; he injured a finger tendon last week and now has a wrist injury to boot. \"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Dallas Mavericks (28-15)<\/strong><\/p>\n

Are the Dallas Mavericks finally ready to stop the bleeding? They snapped their six-game losing streak with a home victory over the Los Angeles Lakers last week. They followed that up with a forgivable loss at Chicago and a grinder road win over New Jersey. Now, they get to enjoy a four-game homestand.<\/p>\n

Whether they\u2019re ready to string some wins together could depend on Dirk Nowitzki\u2019s health. He\u2019s \u201cback\u201d from his knee injury but doesn\u2019t seem to be at full speed yet; in five games since returning, he\u2019s averaging 19 points and has shot 37.5 per cent or worse four times.<\/p>\n

The pick:<\/strong><\/p>\n

We have to be careful not get too carried away with the Clippers on Tuesday. Yes, they\u2019re maturing into a legitimate threat \u2013 but they\u2019re still not the same team away from Staples Center. L.A. is just 3-13 on the road this season;\u00a0 during its 7-2 run, all seven wins came at home and both defeats came on the road.<\/p>\n

The Mavs are 15-8 at home this season \u2013 but just 9-12-2 ATS at home. Assuming the spread is at least four points, the right move may be to pick Dallas straight up but go with the Clippers ATS. I don\u2019t think many if any teams will blow out the Clippers any time soon but L.A. also hasn\u2019t proven itself to be a road warrior yet.<\/p>\n
