The Heisman Race \u2013 Longhorns\u2019 McCoy the McFavorite<\/h2>\n

I apologize for the lame title. Actually \u2013 I don\u2019t! Either way you cut the mustard, McCoy is emerging as the definitive favorite in our NCAA football futures. However, McCoy can\u2019t rest on the laurels of his team\u2019s efforts. Sam Bradford continues to put up huge numbers. If anyone has to be concerned, it\u2019s Chase Daniel. <\/p>\n

Sam Bradford (QB) \u2013 Oklahoma Sooners<\/h3>\n

The super sophomore pasted Kansas for 468 passing yards and three touchdowns, while the Sooners demolished the Jayhawks. Bradford is considered the favorite by many, but he has to prove that the Sooner scan win when it matters most. The fact that he had a better game than Daniel did against Texas will keep his hopes alive. His number have to continue to bloom out of control for him to retain his pace in this tight race. Winning will help too. For the season, Bradford has 2,250 yards passing and 26 touchdowns with only two interceptions. To me, there is no more complete quarterback in the country.<\/p>\n

Next Game: Oklahoma -19 vs. Kansas St.<\/em><\/p>\n

Colt McCoy (QB) \u2013 Texas Longhorns<\/h3>\n

The thing about McCoy is that his numbers wouldn\u2019t prove on paper that he is the reason his team is winning. Texas averages 48.1 points per game, but also rushes for 193.4 yards on the ground ranking them 24th in the country. Their home defense, which holds opponents to 23.8 points against, is second best in the league. While Bradford is the engine pumping overtime while the Sooners are rising, McCoy is merely a very important cog in a complex wheel.<\/p>\n

McCoy\u2019s 337 yard, 4 touchdown performance against Missouri made him look like the stud he is being credited for. He has surpassed Daniel in the race for the Heisman, and with Texas ranking first in the nation, he is a nose ahead of Bradford. But with fewer passing yards (1,894 passing yards on the season) and 7 fewer passing touchdowns, McCoy may not get the praise you think he deserves from the voters.<\/p>\n

Texas needs to keep winning for McCoy to keep proving that he is worth the long term betting investment. With a sneaky Oklahoma State team coming to Texas this weekend, the Longhorns are in serious trouble of the Letdown Game (a surprise loss after one or more convincing, hard fought victories). Before you go crazy this weekend on the Texas game, along with McCoy\u2019s Heisman chances, wait for this weekend to pass.<\/p>\n

Chase Daniel (QB) \u2013 Missouri Tigers<\/h3>\n

The tilt against Texas was out of hand before Chase could get to work. He ended the game with 318 yards passing, two passing touchdowns, a rushing score and one pick. His numbers are still outstanding, but suffering a lambasting at the hands of the other Heisman hopeful has all but killed the senior\u2019s chances.<\/p>\n

Next Game: Colorado vs. Missouri -20<\/em><\/p>\n

Graham Harrell (QB) \u2013 Texas Tech Raiders<\/h3>\n

The Raiders are soaring up the ranks, and Harrell\u2019s canon for an arm is going to get the credit. Putting up 2,761 passing yards has him as the obvious passing yards leader amongst his Heisman cohorts. <\/a>He has one of the most dangerous weapons with Michael Crabtree, who may also steal some votes, but Harrell is going to be given the chance to put up massive numbers which will keep his hopes alive in this race.<\/p>\n

If you\u2019re looking for an underdog, Harrell is proving he is worth the shot. With 318 attempts, it\u2019s proof that the pass heavy offense at Texas Tech will keep leaning on Harrell. He just has to make the most of this opportunity, because it\u2019s ultimately his last chance for Heisman glory.<\/p>\n

Shonn Greene (RB) \u2013 Iowa Hawkeyes<\/h3>\n

Greene has been the poster boy for underrated tailbacks in the league. He had a slip and slide touchdown against Wisconsin, which was one of four rushing touchdowns Greene amassed while compiling 217 yards on the day. The Hawkeyes are largely off the betting radar, but Greene is starting to mount a case for the Heisman in the process.<\/p>\n

Javon Ringer (RB) \u2013 Michigan State Spartans<\/h3>\n

He had a shot against Ohio State, and lost. With only 67 rushing yards on that game, he allowed Shonn Greene to emerge as the premier tailback in the race. Ringer still has 14 touchdowns and 1,179 rushing yards but doesn\u2019t have the size or bulk to keep pounding the rock this season. He\u2019s going up against possibly the stiffest competition and his team\u2019s record isn\u2019t helping. A big game against Sam McGuffie, who will have his chance at the Heisman in the coming years, and the Michigan Wolverines has everyone in the Big 10 eager to bet on the big board.<\/p>\n
