Indianapolis Colts vs. New York Jets preview<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Much has changed since the Jets and Colts had at it last January in an AFC Championship Game matchup that no one really expected to happen. San Diego, not the Jets, figured to be playing Indy for the right to get one of the Super Bowl slots, but the Chargers were laid waste by New York in a head-scratching upset.\u2019<\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The Jets, after all, wouldn\u2019t have even qualified for play past Week 17 had the Colts \u2013\u2013 fearing injury and not really wanting to carry a 16-0 regular-season anchor heading into the playoffs \u2013\u2013\u00a0 not pulled Peyton Manning in the second half in the second-to-last game of the season. The Jets parlayed that gift with a Week 17 win over the likewise-compliant Bengals, gratefully punched their ticket and then took advantage by beating Cincinnati (again) and the choking Chargers once the playoffs began.<\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 This time they kick things off in the wild card round, with the Jets acknowledging that they have to regain their defensive mojo and the Colts hoping that Manning can throw for more than 300 yards. A typical Manning game combined with a resurgent running game can complicate life for the Jets defense. <\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0Receivers Austin Collie and Dallas Clark will both be watching in street clothes, but the Colts do have Joseph Addai back to breathe life into a running game that most of the season had all the life of a dried-up New Mexico creek in late July. The Jets, facing the prospect of having to win three consecutive road games against solid teams, are hardly sympathizing. \"Sports<\/a><\/p>\n

They have had problems on the ground themselves as LaDainian Tomlinson hasn\u2019t run for more than 50 yards in a game since Week 10 and Shonn Greene has hardly lit it up.<\/p>\n

\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0The Jets will be trying to advance in the playoffs against the backdrop of a season long of off-the field issues, starting with the Hard Knocks documentary, continuing with Brett Favre slime and TripGate, and (hopefully) concluding with foot fetish videos featuring coach Rex Ryan and his wife. Another day, another distraction.<\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Both teams have so many flaws that chances are pretty good that the winner of this game will have a short lifespan as the playoffs continue. If the Jets win they head to Foxboro, where they were bitch-slapped to the tune of 45-3 last month. If the Colts survive, they head to Pittsburgh, where the rested Steelers await.<\/p>\n

Over is 7-1 in NYJ last 8 games in January.
\nOver is 13-3-1 in NYJ last 17 road games.
\nOver is 16-5 in NYJ last 21 games overall.
\nUnder is 8-3 in IND last 11 playoff games.<\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0The picks:<\/em><\/strong> Concerns about Mark Sanchez have caused the Jets to play things close to the vest. The Colts don\u2019t have a shutdown defense, but they have had three consecutive games (all wins) stopping the run, and if they can make it four in a row, they\u2019ll be glad to take their chances if the Jets are forced to throw the ball. <\/p>\n

Manning frustrates defenses by simply throwing the ball away and waiting for big-play openings. <\/p>\n

The line is 2.5, but liking Indy to cover that easily, with another play on the over. <\/p>\n
