The San Antonio Spurs were deemed too old to be a real threat by most experts last year, but now they have an amazing 29-4 record in early January. The Spurs made some key acquisitions in the offseason, and they have changed their style of play successfully this season. The Boston Celtics fell just short of another title last year, but they appear determined to make it back to the NBA Finals this year. This is one of the better matchups in the NBA this year, as the teams with the best record in each league will square off.<\/p>\n

The Spurs have the best record in the NBA so far this year. Manu Ginobili is a legitimate MVP candidate and the team is undergoing an amazing resurgence. The Spurs have always been thought of as a defensive team that can\u2019t put up high point totals, but that isn\u2019t the case this year. San Antonio is running effectively, and they rank fourth in the NBA with 105.6 points per game. Richard Jefferson was supposed to be the big pick up for the team last year, but he struggled mightily. \"Sports<\/p>\n

This year Jefferson appears much more comfortable in the offense and his numbers are much improved from a year ago. Gary Neal was brought in without any fanfare, but he has scored more than 20 points in three of their last seven games. Improved depth has helped the Spurs immensely this year.<\/p>\n

The Boston Celtics come into this game with the best record in the Eastern Conference. Boston went without Rajon Rondo for seven games, but Rondo is back and most of the way healthy now. <\/p>\n

Kevin Garnett will be out for a few more games, and this team certainly misses his presence on the inside. The Celtics have lost three of their last six as these injuries have added up, but on the whole this team looks to be in position for another run toward the NBA Finals. Paul Pierce has stepped up in the absence of some of the other stars. <\/p>\n

Shaquille O\u2019Neal has been giving this team quality minutes, and he could certainly help this team come playoff time, especially on the defensive end. Boston is currently shooting 50.0% from the floor so far this year, which is best in the NBA. They are also allowing only 90.8 points per game, which is also best in the NBA.<\/p>\n

The Pick:<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Spurs will be on the back end of a back-to-back against two tough teams so they could be a little worn down in this game. Boston will be the fresher team, but they have far more injury problems to be dealing with right now. Boston has been slowing the pace down of late and the under is 7-1 in their last eight games overall. The under is also 3-1 in the Spurs last four games. I like the under in this one.<\/p>\n
