West Virginia is having trouble adjusting to the loss of star players from last year but this is still a pretty good team that should make the NCAA tournament. \u00a0<\/p>\n

Losses to Minnesota and Miami weren’t horrible but coach Bob Huggins has to be upset about not defending their home court in their Big East opener against St. Johns (they lost by 10). \u00a0WVU is adjusting to getting more of their scoring from the backcourt with the loss of Da”Sean Butler and Devin Ebanks. \u00a0In the early going guard Casey Mitchell has been fantastic. \u00a0<\/p>\n

Averaging 17ppg he has increased his scoring by 14 points from his freshman campaign but it might be too much to assume he can continue that pace in now that Big East play has begun. \u00a0WVU needs Deniz Kilicli to start performing up to his potential. \u00a0The Bull from Istanbul has talent but has looked lost so far this season. \"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Marquette enters the New Year off a close loss to Vanderbilt by a point on the road. \u00a0They may have 4 losses but the Golden Eagles have been in every game this season losing none of them by more than 5 points. \u00a0Plus the fact that all of those losses are to likely tournament teams Duke, Wisconsin, Vanderbilt and Gonzaga demonstrates that Marquette may be better than expected this season. \u00a0<\/p>\n

In fact only Michigan State has gotten as close to the Blue Devils so far. \u00a0Marquette is a very perimeter oriented and very balanced team. \u00a0<\/p>\n

They have five players averaging double figures led by guard Jimmy Butler who continues to improve. \u00a0Even though they are a jump shooting team they have been very efficient so far this season, ranking 7th in FG% in the nation (over 50%). \u00a0When their shots are falling they can hang with just about anyone (see Duke game). \u00a0<\/p>\n

This is a good matchup between two teams in that middle tier of the Big East.<\/p>\n
