New York Jets<\/strong>
\nThe Jets desperately needed a win last week and got it even though they were visiting a very good Pittsburgh team. \u00a0A division title is looking unlikely but their positioning for the Wild Card is looking very good with just a couple of games left. \u00a0Another victory and they are assured a spot in the playoffs but it won\u2019t come easy visiting a Chicago team which is in a very similar situation.<\/p>\n

New York didn\u2019t do anything special last week, in fact they were out-gained by the Steelers by about 100 yards. \u00a0They just didn\u2019t make many mistakes and were able to capitalize on a a huge special teams play from Brad Smith who took the opening kickoff 97 yards for a score. \u00a0They were steady the rest of the game playing most it with a lead which takes the pressure off QB Mark Sanchez.<\/p>\n

These teams, both entering the contest with 10 wins, have been very similar ATS this season as well (8-6 vs 7-6-1). Looking closer the Jets have been a very solid 5-2 ATS on the road and 4-0 ATS when playing on natural grass, like they play on at vintage Soldier Field. \u00a0They are also perfect in expected tight games, 2-0 ATS when the spread is 0 to +3 like it is this weekend. \"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Chicago Bears<\/strong>
\nThe Bears also needed to get back on the winning track last week after being pummeled by the Patriots…and they did with a good victory in the cold against the Vikings. \u00a0One more win could guarantee them a first round bye and making sure that everyone, save Atlanta, would have to come through the Windy City.<\/p>\n

The Bears looked very good on Monday. \u00a0Defensively they were helped by facing rookie QB Joe Webb in his first real taste of NFL action but what was most impressive was the offense. \u00a0Cutler proved that he can operate in the cold by throwing for 3 TDs and RB Matt Forte looked very fresh running for 92 yards on only 17 carries. \u00a0It was the kind of total performance that a division winner should have.<\/p>\n

The Bears should be expecting another bout of cold weather when they host the Jets on Sunday. \u00a0This team is only 4-3 at home this season so it would be good if they can establish their ability to play in bad weather given the likelihood of them hosting a playoff game in just a few weeks. \u00a0This week they play against a playoff calibre opponent in the Jets so it will be a good test.<\/p>\n

The Pick: <\/strong> Two tough defenses in this one. \u00a0I like the Jets offense a little better and I think they should feel a little more urgency to punch their playoff ticket this week on the road. \u00a0I am on New York in what should be a real defensive battle. \u00a0Jets are 6-1 on the road this year.<\/p>\n
