Green Bay Packers vs. New England Patriots<\/strong><\/p>\n

We\u2019re guessing that the Green Bay Packers\u2019 2010 plans didn\u2019t include heading into New England in Week 15 for an important game against the Patriots and being without starting quarterback Aaron Rodgers. But that\u2019s what appears to be the situation as the Packers begin a three-week war with several other teams in the fight for a spot in the playoffs.<\/p>\n

Winning in New England would be hard enough, given the way the Patriots (11-2) are playing right now. Bill Belichick\u2019s teams are almost always better in December than they are in September and October, and this year is no different. The New England offense has adapted to the Randy Moss\/Deion Branch exchange better than anyone figured, the young defense is swarming to the ball and creating turnovers, and Tom Brady\u2019s play over the last several games has eliminated most other candidates for the MVP award.<\/p>\n

Those are the multiple issues facing the Packers Sunday night in a game that might be played in snow, where the Patriots just happen to be at their best. NE\u2019s short- and intermediate-range passing game relies on Brady\u2019s reads and receivers\u2019 cutting and precise routes, and defenses have almost no chance. Ask the last three teams to play the Pats in heavy snow \u2013 Chicago (36-7 last week), Tennessee (59-0 last year) and Arizona (47-7 two years ago). \"Sports<\/a><\/p>\n

If Rodgers can\u2019t go, the dubious honor of trying to take down the hottest team in the league goes to backup Matt Flynn, who was underwhelming in the Packers\u2019 loss to Detroit last weekend. Flynn got absolutely no help from the Packers\u2019 run game (66 yards on 20 carries vs. Detroit), which has never been able to recover from the loss of Ryan Grant, who went down in Week 1.<\/p>\n

Connect the dots:<\/p>\n

Young quarterback.<\/p>\n

On the road.<\/p>\n

In New England.<\/p>\n

In bad weather.<\/p>\n

No running game.<\/p>\n

Bill Belichick the opposing coach.<\/p>\n

The pick: <\/em> In the midst of what figured to be their toughest stretch of the season, the Patriots have blown away Pittsburgh, the Jets and Chicago \u2013 three teams that all feel they can win the Super Bowl.<\/p>\n

Short of an injury to Brady early in this game, is there a compelling reason that New England will not continue to play this way? Green Bay has plenty of motivation: Falling to 8-6 would just about force them to win their final two games \u2013 both at home \u2013 against the Giants and Bears to get into the playoffs. <\/p>\n

The margin for error is tiny for the team with the most difficult final three games of any playoff hopeful.<\/p>\n
