Troy<\/strong><\/p>\n

Being the top team in the Sun Belt Conference is kind of like being the smartest kid in remedial class, but Troy nevertheless often holds the distinction of being the conference\u2019s best. The Trojans have won at least a share of the conference title for five straight seasons. Additionally, Troy is getting acclimatized to bowl season; it\u2019s the Trojans fifth bowl game in seven years.<\/p>\n

Troy fields an offense that can beat you downfield. Freshman QB Corey Robinson has amassed an impressive 3,320 yards and 24 TDs in 2010. He is coming off back-to-back 300-yard efforts to close out the season and is responsible for an attack that finished 27th<\/sup> in the nation in points for. His primary targets are WRs Jerrel Jernigan and Jason Bruce, who together accounted for over 1,200 yards and 10 majors. \"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

The bad news for Troy is that the defense is vulnerable. After nasty outings where the \u201cD\u201d gave up 41 points to Oklahoma State, 52 points to middling Florida International and a whopping 69 points to South Carolina, it has become evident the unit is leakier than the\u00a0Titanic<\/em>. To win, Troy must out-score Ohio \u2013 which they are capable of doing \u2013 because Lord knows the Trojans won\u2019t get any help on the other side of the ball.<\/p>\n

Ohio<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Bobcats are still waiting for their first bowl win. They\u2019ve been to four bowl games and 2010 marks a consecutive bowl game streak for the MAC team, but they are 0-4 thus far. Ohio might well get its inaugural win against a Troy team that is beatable if Ohio\u2019s defense shows up to play.<\/p>\n

Granted, the only really tough game Ohio had on its slate this season was an ugly 43-7 loss to Ohio State. Yet apart from a Nov. 26 loss at Kent State, the Bobcats were winners of seven straight. Apart from the game against the Buckeyes and surrendering 31 points to UL-Lafayette, Ohio has kept opposing offenses in check. With those two ugly games on the record books, Ohio still only gives up less than 22 points per game.<\/p>\n

Ohio\u2019s passing attack isn\u2019t impressive like Troy\u2019s, but they do field an effective, team-oriented run game. Five players have at least 200 yards rushing and three TDs on the campaign. Quarterback Boo Jackson can be dangerous with his arm or his feet.<\/p>\n

The Pick: <\/strong>Ohio will be able to get in the endzone against a flimsy Trojans \u201cD\u201d, so if the Bobcats can spark a characteristically strong defensive performance and minimize the freshman Robinson\u2019s impact on the game, Ohio has an excellent shot at coming out of N\u2019awlins with a victory.<\/p>\n
