Many NCAA hoops experts gave Florida (6-2) a legit chance to be a National Championship contender, but they already have 2 losses and they were crushed in their only game against a ranked team. They are at home and big favorites against Kent State (7-0), who is a legit team, but is 0-2 in road games this season. College basketball lines have Florida as 14-point favorites in this game with a total of 136.5.<\/p>\n

In their last games both teams played Saturday, but with different results with Florida beating American University 67-48 while Kent State lost to Alabama- Birmingham 75-59.<\/p>\n

This is the first ever meeting between these 2 schools. Florida cannot overlook Kent State to their next game when they face 5th<\/sup> ranked Kansas State.<\/p>\n

Florida head coach Billy Donovan was all over his team for playing selfish basketball in their 57-54 loss to Central Florida last week and they came back in their next game against American University committing a season-low 10 turnovers.<\/p>\n

Kent State has a good offense averaging 74.6 ppg and when they have scored more than 70 points they are 5-0 on the season. The Golden Flashes may have a problem getting to 70 points tonight against a solid Gators\u2019 defense that ranks 35th<\/sup> in the nation only allowing opponents to shoot 37.9% from the floor. Florida has given up less than 60 ppg in their last 6 games and has won 5 of those 6 games. \"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Florida will have to play especially good D on F Justin Greene (18.6 ppg), who leads the Golden Flashes in scoring. Donovan recently stated about Kent State and Greene,\u00a0“They are a tough team, they are a physical team. They’ve got a great player in Greene. He’s a guy who can really score and post up in around the basketball, a really good passer.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Overall Kent State has 3 players that are averaging over 10 ppg, as along with Green G Carlton Guyton (12.6 ppg) and G Rodriquez Sherman (10.9 ppg) can also fill it up. The Gators\u2019 backcourt has to keep Sherman from bombing away from deep, as he is shooting an impressive 53.3% from beyond the 3-point arc. In the loss to Alabama-Birmingham the Golden Flashes only shot 5\/18 from 3-point land (.278) and they will have shoot the rock better tonight.<\/p>\n

Kent State runs a lot of creative plays and their offense relies on good passing and they will have to do that tonight for any chance to win since the Gators are a much more athletic team.<\/p>\n

Florida also has 3 players that are averaging in double figures in G Erving Walker (13.3 ppg), G Kenny Boynton (12.8 ppg), and F Chandler Parsons (10.8 ppg). These 3 play a great high-low game and they have to pass well and take advantage of their athleticism in this game.<\/p>\n

Kent State has not played good defense recently, as in their last game they allowed Alabama-Birmingham to shoot over 50% from the floor and in their last 3 games they have allowed opponents to shoot over 47%.<\/p>\n

The Golden Flashes rank 40th<\/sup> in the nation in rebounds per game, but were out-rebounded in their last loss to UAB, which cost them. They are not a team that shoots a high field goal percentage so they need to hit the offensive glass hard. Florida rebounds well as a team led by Parsons (6 rpg). If the Gators can control the boards they should be in good shape in this game.<\/p>\n

Florida is a better team and they are at home, where they are very tough to beat. They will dominate the boards and keep Greene from having a huge game. The Gators will easily win this game and cover the spread.<\/p>\n
