An intrastate battle between Northern Iowa and Iowa will take place tonight in Iowa City. Northern Iowa was the bracket buster team of last March, but this is a far different team this season. Some of their veterans are gone and the team isn\u2019t quite where it was last year. The Panthers are still a dangerous opponent because of the tremendous defense they play all game long. \"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

The Iowa Hawkeyes lost a tough one to Wake Forest in the ACC\/Big Ten Challenge and they now sit at 4-4. This is a program that is under new leadership this season. Fran McCaffery, the former coach at Siena, is now the man at Iowa. This isn\u2019t an Iowa team that can compete with the best in the Big Ten, but they\u2019ll look to improve throughout the year.<\/p>\n

Northern Iowa still has some players who understand Ben Jacobsen\u2019s system very well. Kwadzo Ahelegbe is a tough guard who does a lot of dirty work for the team. Anthony James didn\u2019t play much of a role last year, but he has stepped it up a lot this season. Jake Koch, Johnny Moran, and Lucas O\u2019Rear are all back from last year\u2019s Cinderella team.<\/p>\n

Iowa is led by sophomore Eric May, who has turned into a very productive player for this team. Matt Gatens was their leading scorer last year, but he is struggling mightily with this shot this season. Iowa is solid on the boards, but they have difficulty generating offense out of their half-court sets.<\/p>\n

I think Northern Iowa has a good chance to pull off the outright upset in this one.<\/p>\n
