New York Jets vs. New England Patriots Preview<\/strong><\/p>\n

No insults this time?<\/p>\n

What a drag.<\/p>\n

The Jets have instituted radio silence on all trash talk ahead of this Monday night\u2019s game of the year in Foxboro against the Patriots. The Patriots never have much to say, but smiling boy Bill Belichick has reportedly reiterated that nothing should be uttered to get the Jets any more pissed off than they usually are. Belichick\u2019s remarks were obviously aimed at Tom Brady, who earlier in the season proclaimed his hatred for the New Yorkers.<\/p>\n

So that leaves us with just football to talk about, and come to think of it that\u2019s not a bad thing when two 9-2 are going at it. The winner most likely will get the AFC title and the first-round playoff bye that comes with it, while the loser will get to finish something like 13-3 or 12-4 and hit the road on wild card weekend to a remote outpost like Pittsburgh, Baltimore, Indianapolis or San Diego.<\/p>\n

But first things first. Both teams enter Monday night knowing that the other is capable of winning. The Patriots are virtually unbeatable in Foxboro during the regular season, and the Jets have dodged and weaved their way to 8 consecutive road victories \u2013 in fact, the last time NY was beaten on the road was in New England in November 2009. Full disclosure \u2013 the Jets haven\u2019t exactly had a Bataan Death March. Those 8 wins came against Buffalo (twice), Tampa Bay (last year, when they sucked), Indianapolis (in that game when the Colts pulled Manning), Miami, Denver, Detroit and Cleveland.) \"Sports<\/a><\/p>\n

The Jets will do Monday night what they always try to do against Tom Brady. Dominate the game by putting Brady on the part of his body that he can\u2019t see too well. NY hit Brady 23 times (curiously, with zero sacks) in their win over the Pats in New York last season, but later in 2009, when the teams played in Foxboro, Brady stayed on his feet and New York\u2019s Mark Sanchez was harassed into a 4-interception game and NE won handily.<\/p>\n

Look for the Pats to neutralize the Jets\u2019 blitz package with a short passing game predicated on Brady 3-step drops. We might also get a Fred Taylor sighting. He hasn\u2019t played since the Eisenhower Administration with a bad toe, though he was suited last week.<\/p>\n

Betting\u00a0Trends<\/strong>:<\/p>\n

NYJ are 9-2 ATS in their last 11 road games.
\nUnder is 13-3 in NYJ last 16 games in December.
\nOver is 8-2 in NYJ last 10 games overall.
\nOver is 7-1 in NE last 8 games on fieldturf.
\nOver is 9-2 in NE last 11 vs. AFC.
\nNE are 5-2-1 ATS in their last 8 games overall.
\nRoad team is 18-7-1 ATS in their last 26 meetings.<\/p>\n

Pick: Patriots -3.5<\/strong><\/p>\n

Both teams will have had 10 days of prep work by the time this one kicks off, and no one kicks it better in the film room than Belichick. It\u2019s doubtful the Jets will employ any blitz package that NE hasn\u2019t already worked on in practice, and the Pats have the added insurance of Pro Bowl guard Logan Mankins, who was a contract holdout the last time the teams played, in Week 2. The Pats have won at home by an average score of 31-22 this year.\u00a0\u00a0Even an improving Mark Sanchez won\u2019t put up much more than that this time.<\/p>\n
