Central Florida<\/strong><\/p>\n

I have really liked this Central Florida team the last few seasons and especially this year.\u00a0 It is no surprise that they are in the Conference USA championship game looking for their tenth victory.\u00a0 Outside of TCU and Boise State I am not sure you can find a better team outside the BCS right now (sorry Utah).\u00a0 Whether they win or lose whoever gets them in their bowl game better be ready for a fight.\u00a0 This is one C-USA team that is tough.<\/p>\n

Ever since George O\u2019Leary took over this team has had one of the best defenses in the conference.\u00a0 This year they have a potent offense too, averaging 35ppg (19th in the nation).\u00a0 All the success they have been having is without a couple of players thought to be critical at the beginning of the season.\u00a0 RB Brynn Harvey hasn\u2019t logged a single carry due to injury and expected starting QB Rob Calabrese has been out for a while as well.\u00a0 Their replacements, Ronnie Weaver and Jeff Godfrey really stepped up.<\/p>\n

These two teams have only met twice in 2007 and 2008. Both were victories by UCF, both by double digits.\u00a0 Admittedly SMU was not nearly as good then as they have been since but UCF has just dominated them.\u00a0 Based on the spread many are expecting that to happen again on Saturday.\u00a0 The Knights also have the advantage of playing in their home stadium which is pretty sweet for a championship game. \"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

SMU<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Mustangs didn\u2019t have as good a season as expected but still wound up in the C-USA Championship game.\u00a0 The key game as it turns out wasn\u2019t putting a scare into TCU but beating Tulsa in an unexpectedly low scoring affair 21-18.\u00a0 That win gave them the tiebreaker they needed even though Tulsa won six in a row afterwards to tie for the division lead while the Mustangs were inconsistent down the stretch.<\/p>\n

That same inconsistency is what has plagued QB Kyle Padron throughout the year.\u00a0 When it is least expected he has a poor performance and they are not quite strong enough to overcome.\u00a0 235 pound RB Zack Line tries to be strong enough on his own but sometimes they forget about him like they did in their loss to UTEP where he had only 11 carries despite ripping off more than 5 yards a clip.\u00a0 Line is red hot right now with 100+ yards in four of his last five games.<\/p>\n

SMU definitely has a chance in this one but they might want to flip the script using Line to grab a lead early and try and shorten the game a little.\u00a0 Although they have the firepower to come back if they fall behind, the last thing they want is to become one dimensional on offense.\u00a0 Central Florida is very good and they will have to play a complete game to beat the Knights and win the championship.<\/p>\n

The Pick:<\/strong> I like the Knights to win on their home field and be C-USA champs.\u00a0 I just don\u2019t like that spread.\u00a0 A seven spot is what I see here.<\/p>\n
