Houston<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Cougars have had the tale of multiple seasons.\u00a0 They started off alright, then they lost Case Keenum and struggled.\u00a0 Then they found their QB of the future and won…and now they are looking to snap a two game losing streak on the road against the hottest team in the conference.\u00a0 It isn\u2019t impossible but it is going to be a big challenge to beat a Southern Miss team that is still battling for a conference championship.<\/p>\n

The Cougars have been battling too but coming up a little bit short the past two weeks in losing back to back home games to UCF and Tulsa.\u00a0 The loss to Tulsa was especially puzzling as QB David Piland threw 5 interceptions against one of the worst passing defenses in the nation.\u00a0 The stats overall were pretty even but no team can overcome that many turnovers…although the Cougars gave it a real shot with chances to win it in the fourth<\/p>\n

The Cougars have won 3 of the last 4 between the two teams including 50-43 last season.\u00a0 Prior to that it was all Southern Miss as they dominated in the mid \u201890s and the early part of this decade.\u00a0 It should come as no surprise in C-USA but the key is always offense.\u00a0 Only three times in their last ten meetings has the winner not scored 31 or more points.\u00a0 I have a feeling that number is likely to be surpassed by both teams this weekend. \"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Southern Mississippi<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Eagles are feeling very good after upsetting UCF last week on the road.\u00a0 They were 10.5 point underdogs but flipped the script on the Knights winning by 10.\u00a0 They are still a game behind UCF and East Carolina in their division and will be looking back at that one point home loss to UAB for the entire off-season unless something unexpected happens that launches them into the conference championship game.<\/p>\n

Southern Miss has been enjoying success despite having their primary weapon unavailable for most of the season.\u00a0 WR DeAndre Jordan has played only once since September but Southern Miss has been putting up solid numbers anyway.\u00a0 Now that he is back they should be even more dangerous as they don\u2019t have to force the ball his way.\u00a0 QB Austin Davis is having a successful season spreading the ball around with 10 receivers with double digit catches.<\/p>\n

Houston can be a dangerous opponent, especially when they are counted out.\u00a0 The Eagles aren\u2019t normally thought of as one of the more explosive teams in C-USA but at 34ppg they rank 24th in the nation so they should be able to keep up with Houston if their defense can\u2019t hold the Cougars back.\u00a0 Southern Miss needs this one to break the 7 win mark, a number they have been stuck on for three straight seasons.<\/p>\n

The Pick: <\/strong>The Eagles seem likely to win but the real play here is the over.\u00a0 65.5 points, that should be covered by the end of the third.<\/p>\n
