The biggest question surrounding the Bruins camp is whether they can close out the season strong by winning at least two of their three remaining games to earn bowl eligibility.<\/p>\n

There will be a lot riding on UCLA\u2019s trip to Washington. It\u2019s the team\u2019s best chance at building on its 17-14 win over Oregon State that snapped a three-game losing streak for the Bruins who had been outscored 124-42 in those losses. Now they square off against a disappointing Huskies team that has been blown out in three consecutive games.
\nThe Huskies are coming off a bye week, and redshirt freshman backup Keith Price could get his second start since pulling duty under center in the Huskies 53-16 defeat at Oregon on Nov. 6.<\/p>\n

A final decision on whether or not, one-time Heisman hopeful, starting QB Jake Locker will play on Thursday has not been made by the Washington medical staff. Locker who has been out with a broken rib did practice on Saturday for the first time since Oct 30.<\/p>\n

All things considered, Price fared well against the nations\u2019\u00a0No. 1 team; completing 14 of 28 passes for 127 yards, a touchdown and not one interception. While that may be a far cry from being enough offense to beat Oregon, it very well could be enough to sneak past a bipolar Bruins defense that held Oregon State to just 267 total yards, but was manhandled in Arizona just one week before.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the Bruins have had to turn to sophomore quarterback Richard Brehaut to replace starter Kevin Prince who remains sidelined with a season-ending knee injury. Like Price, Brehaut turned in a decent performance his last time out completing 13-of-19 passing for just 127 yards and an interception while rushing for 61 yards and a touchdown on 18 attempts, as UCLA stunned the Beavers on Kai Forbath\u2019s 51-yard field goal on the final play of the game. \"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Could this be a battle of backups? If so, I would give the advantage to Price who should get some help from a better-equipped receiving corps led by Jermaine Kearse who has 47 receptions for 729 yards and 10 TDs on the season. Junior Taylor Embree is the closest the Bruins have to a compete receiver but has yet to haul his first touchdown pass of the year.<\/p>\n

On the other hand, when it comes to the running game, the Bruins may have the edge behind the game-in and game-out efforts of sophomore tailback Johnathan Franklin who took 23 carries for 100 yards rushing and a touchdown last weekend against the Beavers. Franklin has posted three 100-plus games including rushing for 216 yards in a win over Washington State, and 158 with three TDs in the Bruins upset over Houston back in Week 3.<\/p>\n

Chris\u00a0Polk is the Huskies\u2019 tantamount with a season total 153 carries for 730 yards and for rushing TDs. The sophomore has also hit the rushing century mark in three of his outings, but has been held to just 159 yards and a lone TD in Washington\u2019s last three contests.<\/p>\n

The Bruins may find themselves on the receiving a gift, as the Huskies are allowing just shy of 220 yards rushing per game and 30 rushing TDs, worst in the PAC-10.<\/p>\n

While no games outcome can be determined with just one player, this particular match up will hinge on Locker\u2019s presence for the Huskies. Not necessarily because Washington is that much better with him, but rather having him, spreads the Bruins\u2019 inconsistent defense. However, we do know that the team that can control the clock usually wins the big games. <\/p>\n

In that case, I will go out on a limb and give the win to the Bruins in this one, with more experience at back up QB and a more dominating running game.<\/p>\n
