Miami Hurricanes (6-3)<\/strong><\/p>\n

It\u2019s do or die time for the Miami Hurricanes, who must improve to 7-3 this week at Georgia Tech if they want any shot at the ACC title. At first glance, it would appear that the Hurricanes are shorthanded and in danger of failing this week. But things aren\u2019t always what they seem.<\/p>\n

Starting quarterback Jacory Harris missed last week\u2019s game against Virginia Tech with a concussion; backup Stephen Morris led an 82-yard, game-winning drive as Miami triumphed 26-20 over Maryland. Leading rusher Damien Berry didn\u2019t start due to a leg injury; his replacement, Lamar Miller, ran for 125 yards and a touchdown on 22 carries. Overall, Miami rolled up 504 yards of offense. That was a season high. [soliloquy id=”82219″]<\/p>\n

Berry is doubtful to return this week and, while Harris will get the starting reins back if he returns, the point is that Miami showed last week that it has the depth to be a competitive team even when its supposed go-to guys are out of the lineup.<\/p>\n

Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (5-4)<\/strong><\/p>\n

The last time Georgia Tech played Miami at home, it won 41-23. Using their trademark triple-option offense, the Yellow Jackets rolled up 472 rushing yards. But the result may not be the same this week. Sadly for Georgia Tech, the man who fuelled that system, quarterback Josh Nesbitt, broke his arm in last week\u2019s loss to Virginia Tech. Without the ACC\u2019s all-time leading rusher among quarterbacks, can Georgia Tech still move the ball?<\/p>\n

Tevin Washington ran 11 times for 45 yards and completed 2 of 7 passes for 80 yards and a pick last week. That looks a bit like a poor man\u2019s Nesbitt stat line to me. The Jackets didn\u2019t adjust their offense much once Washington took over the game. Considering that Miami ranks fifth in the country against the pass and only 61st<\/sup> against the run, we shouldn\u2019t expect Georgia Tech to alter its strategy much this week, either.<\/p>\n

The pick: <\/strong><\/p>\n

Despite his legendary status in Georgia Tech folklore, Nesbitt made plenty of mistakes this year. Even he would\u2019ve been in tough against Miami\u2019s athletic defense. It\u2019s reasonable to expect that Tevin Washington has to take even more lumps in his first career college start. On the other side of the ball, most teams have no trouble running on Georgia Tech, which ranks 82nd<\/sup> against the run.<\/p>\n

I\u2019d expect Miami to employ a similar strategy to last week, when it ran the ball 49 times, and beat Georgia Tech with relative ease.<\/p>\n
