2010 NFL Football Power Ratings<\/h2>\n

Each week during the heart of the NFL season, and once or twice during the NFL Preseason, we\u2019ll gather the troops around the roundtable and hash out the\u00a0NFL Power rankings<\/strong><\/a>. We check out the stats, looks at the records, and, most importantly, we take a close, close look at the heart of each team.<\/p>\n

Nine weeks in, and the only question worth asking is: Does anyone know anything about the NFL?<\/p>\n

The 49ers were heavy favorites to win the NFC West. Now?<\/p>\n

A Jets-Giants Super Bowl was possible, then impossible, and now it\u2019s back on the table.<\/p>\n

The Colts can beat anyone, unless they\u2019re beaten up themselves.<\/p>\n

The Saints? Left for dead, and now crawling out of the ditch.<\/p>\n

What we don\u2019t know dwarfs what we do.<\/p>\n

To the rankings:<\/strong><\/p>\n

  • New York Giants (2)<\/strong> \u2013 Wasn\u2019t that painful watching the Seahawks try to tackle Brandon Jacobs last Sunday?<\/strong><\/li>\n

    <\/p>\n

  • Pittsburgh Steelers (3) \u2013 <\/strong>Steelers-Patriots. Game of the year in the AFC this coming Sunday night.<\/li>\n

    <\/p>\n

  • Green Bay Packers (6)<\/strong> \u2013 The more key players are sidelined by injuries, the better the Packers play. It\u2019s not supposed to work this way, is it?<\/strong><\/li>\n

    <\/p>\n

  • Baltimore Ravens (7) \u2013 <\/strong>Dangerous game this week. Ravens have short week before Thursday game against 6-2 Falcons in Atlanta. Ray Lewis is already whining about the quick turnaround.<\/li>\n

    <\/p>\n

  • Atlanta Falcons (8) \u2013<\/strong> Last two games: Michael Turner 228 yards on 47 carries.<\/strong><\/li>\n

    <\/p>\n

  • New York Jets (5)<\/strong> \u2013 Browns\u2019 victory over New England last weekend was a double gift for Jets, who gained a game in AFC East and now have to take Cleveland seriously.<\/strong><\/li>\n

    <\/p>\n

  • Indianapolis Colts (4) \u2013<\/strong> Manning\u2019s passer rating (65.7) vs. the Eagles last week was his lowest in any game this season.<\/strong><\/li>\n

    <\/p>\n

  • New England Patriots (1) <\/strong>\u2013 Bill! Bill Belichik! Look out for that banana\u00a0\u00a0. . .\u00a0\u00a0peel.\u00a0\u00a0Whoops. Too late.<\/li>\n

    <\/p>\n

  • Philadelphia Eagles (11)<\/strong> \u2013 OK the Colts are banged up. We get that. But any victory over Indianapolis \u2013 home or road \u2013 has to be the best pelt on the wall.<\/li>\n

    <\/p>\n

  • New Orleans Saints (13)<\/strong> \u2013 Win over Panthers was nice and kept NO in the NFC South hunt, but rumors persist about the health of Drew Brees.<\/strong><\/li>\n

    <\/p>\n

  • Tennessee Titans (10) \u2013 <\/strong>Randy, you run a fly pattern down the right sideline 10 or 15 times tonight. You won\u2019t get the ball but that will open things up for Chris Johnson. Randy? You there?<\/li>\n

    <\/p>\n

  • Tampa Bay Buccaneers (9) <\/strong>\u2013 Bucs claim coach-to-QB transmitter went dead at a key spot in TB\u2019s loss in Atlanta last weekend, forcing Raheem Morris to burn a time-out.<\/li>\n

    <\/p>\n

  • Kansas City Chiefs (12) <\/strong>\u2013 Cassel\u2019s streak (135 passes without an interception) broken in Oakland.<\/li>\n

    \"Bet<\/p>\n

  • Oakland Raiders (18)<\/strong> \u2013 Fans are starting to return to Raider home games.\u00a0\u00a0Tough game at Pittsburgh after this coming weekend\u2019s bye.<\/li>\n

    <\/p>\n

  • Chicago Bears (17) <\/strong>\u2013 Soft first-half schedule, but the back 9 includes games against Philly, New England, the Jets and Green Bay.<\/li>\n

    <\/p>\n

  • St. Louis Rams (19) \u2013 <\/strong>Has anyone ever deserved a bye week more than tough-guy running back Stephen Jackson, who has toiled long, hard and often injured for bad Rams teams in the past and is now living large?<\/li>\n

    <\/p>\n

  • Jacksonville Jaguars (20) \u2013 <\/strong>Best bet on the board? J-Ville -1 at home against an overrated Texans team.<\/li>\n

    <\/p>\n

  • Miami Dolphins (14)<\/strong> \u2013 About time for the Fins to hit the accelerator.\u00a0\u00a0New England and the Jets are both 6-2 in the AFC East, and as Yogi used to say, \u201cIt\u2019s gets late early around here.\u201d<\/li>\n

    <\/p>\n

  • San Diego Chargers (22)<\/strong> \u2013 Mediocre opponents in second half of the season has been Norv Turner\u2019s firewall this season.<\/li>\n

    <\/p>\n

  • Houston Texans (15) \u2013 <\/strong>Somehow, some way they always wind up around .500.<\/li>\n

    <\/p>\n

  • Cleveland Browns (25) \u2013 <\/strong>Colt McCoy outplayed Tom Brady. Think about that for a minute.<\/li>\n

    <\/p>\n

  • Minnesota Vikings (26)<\/strong> \u2013 Childress is starting to take regular post-game shots at Brett Favre. I knew there was\u00a0something<\/em> about the coach that was likeable.<\/li>\n

    <\/p>\n

  • Seattle Seahawks (16) \u2013 <\/strong>No shame in losing to the Giants, even at home.\u00a0\u00a0But the Seahawks have now been outscored 84-10, over the last 8 quarters.<\/li>\n

    <\/p>\n

  • Washington Redskins (21)<\/strong> \u2013 Media in Arizona are pushing for Cardinals to trade for Donovan McNabb.<\/strong><\/li>\n

    <\/p>\n

  • Arizona Cardinals (23) <\/strong>\u2013 Cards are hoping that the choke job in Minnesota doesn\u2019t define their season.<\/li>\n

    <\/p>\n

  • Detroit Lions (24) \u2013 <\/strong>2 wins, 6 losses. 203 points scored, 188 allowed. Hard to explain those numbers.<\/strong><\/li>\n

    <\/p>\n

  • Cincinnati Bengals (27) \u2013 <\/strong>Fish dead now in the AFC North. No reason now not to hit the clubs on Saturday nights.<\/li>\n

    <\/p>\n

  • San Francisco 49ers (28) \u2013 <\/strong>Mike Singletary sending out signals that Troy Smith will be the QB as the second half of the season starts.<\/li>\n

    <\/p>\n

  • Denver Broncos (29) \u2013 <\/strong>Prospect of 2-14 season is the only thing standing between Tim Tebow and a starting job.<\/li>\n

    <\/p>\n

  • Dallas Cowboys (30)<\/strong> \u2013 Folks in Texas don\u2019t cotton much to talk about climate change, but it seems like that\u2019s what\u2019s needed in Dallas.<\/li>\n

    <\/p>\n

  • Carolina Panthers (31) \u2013 <\/strong>As players and coaches skate, blame for the lost season is being pointed at a front office which refused to spend in the offseason.<\/li>\n

    <\/p>\n

  • Buffalo Bills (32) \u2013 <\/strong>Gotta love Shawne Merriman, who before he even arrived in Buffalo reportedly said he wouldn\u2019t sign to play with the Bills next season.<\/li>\n
