(8) Utah Utes (7-0)<\/strong><\/p>\n

Is there any chance the Utah Utes get caught looking past Air Force? After all, they have what could be a very exciting battle of undefeated teams ahead on the schedule when they meet TCU next week. Also, they\u2019ve been tossing aside opponents like they\u2019re nothing of late.<\/p>\n

Utah has won each of its last six games by at least 24 points. Last week the Utes demolished Colorado State 56-7. Jordan Wynn threw for 321 yards in the win; he\u2019s matured dramatically as a passer this year, posting the MWC\u2019s highest quarterback rating.<\/p>\n

The Utes are a top-five offensive team in the country, averaging 47.7 points, but they\u2019re also a top-five defensive squad, holding opponents to just 12.9 points per game. The Utes have the country\u2019s sixth-ranked fun defense, allowing 87.4 yards per game. That\u2019s an important stat heading into the weekend because Air Force is an amazingly tough team to stop on the ground.<\/p>\n

Air Force Falcons (5-3)<\/strong><\/p>\n

It\u2019s been a rough month of October for Air Force. The Falcons have lost two straight games, getting their hearts broken 27-25 against San Diego State and getting cleaned out 38-7 by TCU. But they believe they can bounce back strong at home. [soliloquy id=”82219″]<\/p>\n

Let\u2019s not forget, this is a team that pushed Oklahoma to the brink earlier this season on the road. Air Force hasn\u2019t lost yet at home and has the country\u2019s No. 1 rushing offense. It\u2019s astounding to think that any team gains more yard on the ground than Georgia Tech but the Falcons do. They average 326.5 rushing yards per game and have three different players with at least 500 rushing yards so far. Quarterback Tim Jefferson Jr. has run for eight scores this season.<\/p>\n

Air Force has the country\u2019s 12th<\/sup>-ranked pass defense but is that stat misleading? Take the TCU game last week, for example. Andy Dalton only threw for 185 yards against Air Force but he only attempted 20 passes. Texas Christian ran the ball 51 times for 377 yards, averaging 7.4 yards per carry. Teams won\u2019t have to pass on Air Force until the Falcons show they can stop a powerhouse rushing attack.<\/p>\n

The pick:<\/strong><\/p>\n

It\u2019s tempting to go with Air Force in the upset here. The underdog is 11-0-1 against the spread in the last 12 meetings between these two teams. But I\u2019m just not convinced that Air Force can stop Utah\u2019s offense, especially on the ground.<\/p>\n

If Air Force couldn\u2019t hang with TCU remotely, should were really expect a magical transformation against another undefeated school? Since the Falcons are at home, this game should be closer than last week and maybe even a barn burner. But I still like Utah to stay perfect and cover the spread.<\/p>\n
