Tennessee<\/strong><\/p>\n

Let’s not dance around it: it hasn’t been the best season for the Vols. After further humiliation last week (41-10 at the hands of Alabama) it is the second consecutive game the Vols have lost by thirtyish to a conference foe. At 2-5, the Sherbet and White are just playing for pride at this point. Yet \u2013 in the SEC more than anywhere \u2013 those pre-conditions can spell an upset. But probably not in this case. \"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

With the exception of their strong showing at LSU earlier in the season, the Tennessee defense has been virtually non-existent in 2010. Almost any opponent can ring up a lot of points on the Vols and South Carolina shouldn\u2019t deviate from that trend. This is a rebuilding team that had to lick its wounds after former coach Lane Kiffin bolted to Southern Cal, and it shows.<\/p>\n

Players like transfer QB Matt Simms and sophomore RB David Oku should eventually be real players, but it\u2019s too much to ask to expect much this season \u2013 including a victory at Williams-Brice Stadium.<\/p>\n

South Carolina<\/strong><\/p>\n

Remarkable freshman RB Marcus Lattimore says he feels 100% and will play against Tennessee, which is the best news the Gamecocks could get. Lattimore has been a beast in his first year in the college ranks and there should be ample opportunities for gouges going up against the porous Vols D.<\/p>\n

When Lattimore was hobbled (ie: the last two weeks) the passing game has been notable with WRs Alshon Jeffery and Tori Gurley. Carolina is doubtlessly still smarting after its upset loss versus Kentucky a couple weeks ago; the \u2019Cocks will aim to follow up a victory at Vanderbilt with another one against a sitting duck opponent from the state of Tennessee.<\/p>\n

SC will move the ball through the air and its defense is good enough to stymie Tennessee\u2019s inexperienced attack. A healthy dose of (healthy) Lattimore will only make the job easier.<\/p>\n

The Pick: <\/strong>It usually gets worse before it gets better for a rebuilding team like the Volunteers, and though one hopes they play with gusto on the road, wisdom dictates that the Gamecocks have too much talent and the visitors are simply too incompetent defensively. Patience is a virtue, you rabid UT fans.<\/p>\n
