Well, it\u2019s on now, isn\u2019t it? The invincible Cliff Lee has finally been tamed. The San Francisco Giants beat the heck out of Texas\u2019 ace in Game 1 of the World Series. Suddenly, it\u2019s becoming clear that they have a chance to actually win this thing. But will Texas bounce back in Game 2?<\/p>\n

Lee starts have been automatic wins for Texas in the 2010 postseason, so it\u2019s understandable if the Rangers are panicking just a little bit today. Especially since the Giants are sending another dominant pitcher after them. Tim Lincecum may be the team\u2019s ace, but Matt Cain is almost as good and has been the Giants\u2019 best starter in the playoffs.<\/p>\n

Both of Cain\u2019s outings have come at home. He allowed one unearned run in 6.2 innings against Atlanta and shut the Phillies out with seven scoreless frames last week. Cain has held opponents to just a .170 average over those two starts. It\u2019s not a huge surprise that he cruised at home, as he was dominant at AT&T Park all season, going 8-4 with a 2.93 ERA.<\/p>\n

Cain\u2019s sample size against Texas is small. He\u2019s faced the Rangers once in his career, tossing eight innings of one-run ball. Ian Kinsler has a homer off him but for the most part Texas regulars have faced him too few times to give us a real sense of how they\u2019ll handle him. \"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

It\u2019s worth noting that the Rangers did get to Lincecum last night. They smacked eight hits and tallied four runs off him in 5.2 innings. Nelson Cruz, Vlad Guerrero and company continue to mash right-handed pitching during these playoffs.<\/p>\n

Can C.J. Wilson bounce back from a weak effort against New York last week? It seems like he\u2019s fallen into a slump. Of his three playoff starts, each has been weaker than the last. Wilson allowed zero, three, then five runs. He\u2019s never faced the Giants in his career but it\u2019s worth noting that he was outstanding on the road this season, posting a 2.91 ERA and holding opponents to a .201 average. Like Cain, he\u2019s faced San Francisco\u2019s regulars (when they were on different teams) too few times for the history to matter. For example, Cody Ross is 0 for 3 against him but does that stat really matter considering what Ross has done this postseason?<\/p>\n

Something tells me this game will be surprisingly low-scoring. Cain loves pitching at home and Wilson loves pitching on the road. My gut says Texas wins this one. First off, despite their loss last night, the Rangers\u2019 bats didn\u2019t go cold at all. They still produced seven runs. Over the course of the series, Texas\u2019 offensive superiority should shine through.<\/p>\n

Secondly, Wilson can still be a clutch pitcher. He shut down Tampa on the road in the NLDS. He struggled last week but that was a trial by fire in his first start at Yankee Stadium. With that nerve-wracking experience behind him, every other road environment should seem pleasant by comparison.<\/p>\n

I know Cain has been untouchable at home but we thought Lee couldn\u2019t lose, didn\u2019t we? The Rangers have swung the bats well against pretty much every pitcher put in front of them in these playoffs. I think they\u2019ll find a way to score off Cain and even this series.<\/p>\n
