UTEP<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Miners might have 5 wins but their list of conquests is thoroughly unimpressive.\u00a0 They lost last week to Tulane in an ugly game and if they want to go bowling this winter I suggest they take care of business this week as they may not get another chance at victory having exhausted all the patsies on their schedule.<\/p>\n

Trevor Vittatoe was just awful in last week\u2019s loss to Tulane.\u00a0 Awful!!.\u00a0 They need him to step up and play the way he did in last year\u2019s victory over the Thundering Herd when he threw for over 500 yards with 5 touchdowns.\u00a0 If he can reach even half of those totals the Miners should be in good shape, especially with their running game clicking with Donald Buckram and Joseph Banyard.\u00a0 This team doesn\u2019t have to rely as much on the pass as they have in the past but Vittatoe can\u2019t lose the game for them.<\/p>\n

These teams have met only three times since Marshall joined the conference.\u00a0 Each time the home team has won and covered.\u00a0 None of the games have been closer than 28 points.\u00a0 I think the Miners are likely to break that streak of home team victories.\u00a0 Marshall is just so bad this year it is hard to imagine they can muster the effort even though most have them pegged as the favourite right now. \"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Marshall<\/strong><\/p>\n

As expected the Thundering Herd lost another one this past week, although it might have been a moral victory to hold ECU to only 37 points.\u00a0 They were able to keep up with the Pirates for a half, sort of, but didn\u2019t score in the second half and couldn\u2019t slow down the Pirates either.\u00a0 <\/p>\n

I would have thought that Marshall would be the underdog this week but the oddsmakers have installed them as the favourite at home against UTEP.<\/p>\n

QB Brian Anderson put the ball in the air 47 times last week but had trouble connecting with his guys.\u00a0 He completed only 27 of those passes to his own team and three times the guys in the purple shirts caught the ball.\u00a0 For this Marshall team to win he has to protect the ball.\u00a0 <\/p>\n

This team is struggling in all phases right now and they have no chance if they are not in the positive in the turnover battle.<\/p>\n

I have to reiterate my surprise that the Thundering Herd are favoured in this spot.\u00a0 While it is certainly possible that the oddsmakers know more than I do, what I see is a team that is just dead in the water with nothing to play for against a team that needs to scrap to make something of their season.\u00a0 If they were big rivals there might be something to motivate Marshall but that isn\u2019t the case.<\/p>\n

The Pick: <\/strong>I am firmly behind UTEP to upset Marshall here.\u00a0 This is a great spot to play the underdog straight up but if you like safety take the points.<\/p>\n
