Ole Miss<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Rebs are in the middle of the hellish stretch of their schedule, where they face #8 Alabama, #23 Arkansas and #4 Auburn in consecutive weeks. Ole Miss travelled to Tuscaloosa, AL last week and they make the trek to Fayetteville this Saturday.<\/p>\n

Given all that\u2019s happened, Ole Miss didn\u2019t get stomped as decisively by Alabama as some may have predicted. The Rebels lost 23-10 and can probably take some positives that they held the Tide to \u201conly\u201d 23 points. That\u2019s where the good news should end, as Razorbacks\u2019 QB Ryan Mallett will probably play this week after responding well following a concussion sustained last week against Auburn. <\/p>\n

Even Arkansas\u2019 back-up, Tyler Wilson, isn\u2019t a plug \u2013 hence the Rebs\u2019 defense has to show up like they did last week for Ole Miss to have a shot. \"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Arkansas<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cPig Sooey\u201d was scoring with Auburn last week in an absolute barn-burner, until Mallett went down with injury in the second half. Then Auburn wunderkind Cam Newton widened the margin, and the Tigers steamrolled to a 65-43\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0victory. The Razorbacks\u2019 D simply didn\u2019t have an answer for its opposition.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s true, Ole Miss QB Jeremiah Masoli is no Newton (at least in 2010) but Arkansas still sorely needs to atone for the horrific defensive performance. Everyone knows Arkansas can score under Mallett\u2019s direction, but it can\u2019t be a real competitor in the SEC or elsewhere until the defense performs week-to-week. The unit will surely aim to come out with whiz-and-vinegar in front of its rabid hometown fans; Ole Miss is the type of conference team Arkansas must defeat if it wants to be taken seriously.<\/p>\n

If Mallett doesn\u2019t show any ill effects and the defense shows it has at least some competence to it, that\u2019s the probable outcome.<\/p>\n

The Pick: <\/strong>In a backhanded compliment kind of way, Ole Miss impressed last week. Many (me included) expected disgruntled Alabama to steamroll last Saturday; Arkansas and its fans likely possess the same vitriol after the Auburn debacle. Can Ole Miss play (reasonably) watertight two weeks in a row? The fact is, Mallett is a helluva QB \u2013 if he\u2019s playing to form, that\u2019s a lot to ask out of the Rebs.<\/p>\n
