Fresno State<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Bulldogs may be 4-2 but they have failed to impress this season in my books.\u00a0 Two weeks ago they got rolled by Hawaii on their own field which is something that a good team just wouldn\u2019t do.\u00a0 Then they followed that up last week with a lacklustre win against New Mexico State.\u00a0 This week they face the other WAC cellar dwellar on the road at San Jose State.<\/p>\n

Fresno State seems to be struggling with their identity this year – they are about average in most facets of the game.\u00a0 Last year they were a run heavy squad featuring current San Diego Charger Ryan Mathews.\u00a0 His replacement Robbie Rouse has been OK but QB Ryan Colburn hasn\u2019t stepped up as was expected of the senior QB.\u00a0 The Bulldogs still have some games to elevate their play to remind us of those tough Pat Hill teams of old. \"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Fresno State has owned the Spartans winning nine of the last ten (7-3 ATS).\u00a0 They have been the favourite in all but two of those games while carving out a reputation as one of the tougher outs outside the BCS.\u00a0 I wouldn\u2019t normally want to back Fresno in a situation like this but they have covered the last 6 times as double digit faves in the series.\u00a0 Lucky number 7 seems likely.<\/p>\n

San Jose State<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Spartans have faced one of the most difficult schedules in the country so it should come as no surprise they are 1-6 at this point.\u00a0 <\/p>\n

They have lost to Alabama, Wisconsin, Utah, Nevada and Boise State, all of whom were ranked and undefeated when they played.\u00a0 Tucked in the middle was a sixth loss to FCS Cal Poly.\u00a0 They lost that one by a point at home and it is the greatest indicator of the state of the program.\u00a0 They are just not very good.<\/p>\n

A few years ago former coach Dick Tomey had these guys whipped into a frenzy.\u00a0 They had an athletic defense and qualified for a bowl.\u00a0 Today they are likely the worst team in the WAC and probably won\u2019t win another game.\u00a0 They are the absolute worst scoring team in the land averaging an astonishing 8.9 points per game.\u00a0 They are the only team in single digits.<\/p>\n

I generally try to be a bit optimistic for each squad when putting these pieces together but the Spartans might be the worst team in the FBS this year.\u00a0 Their only hope might be that with starting QB Jordan La Secla out they might get a spark from backup Matt Faulkner.\u00a0 That is about all you can hitch your hopes to and it ain\u2019t much.<\/p>\n

The Pick:<\/strong> Fresno State should crush their in state conference rivals.\u00a0 Unlike previous recent contests they should cover the spread too.<\/p>\n
