BYU<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Cougars are having a very poor season by their lofty standard.s\u00a0 BYU usually gathers nine or ten wins, competes for a conference title and plays in a bowl game but this year it has been a major struggle.\u00a0 They had lost four games in a row heading into last week but they upset a pretty good San Diego State team at home on Saturday.\u00a0 Yes, that is correct, they were the underdogs at home against the Aztecs.<\/p>\n

One of the main reasons for BYU\u2019s struggles has been poor play at QB.\u00a0 This is a school with a great tradition in the pivot, a tradition that helped lure Jake Heaps to Provo.\u00a0 Heaps may turn out to be a fine player but he is certainly not setting the league on fire as a freshman.\u00a0 He may have collected his first win as a starter last week but he threw for only 126 yards with an interception.\u00a0 For them to have a chance against TCU he will have to be close to perfect.<\/p>\n

BYU was a great get for the Mountain West when it originated but now Utah and TCU have passed the Cougars in the football hierarchy.\u00a0 TCU has won the last two in this annual series and has covered in the last three.\u00a0 This might be TCU\u2019s best team yet and as you can tell by the spread (+29) no one is expecting the Cougars to put up much of a fight. \"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

TCU<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Horned Frogs are 6-0 and ranked 5th in the nation.\u00a0 They have pitched back to back shutouts and it is hard to argue that there is a hotter team in the nation right now.\u00a0 Given that they haven\u2019t allowed a point in 8 straight quarters I took a look deeper at their defensive stats.\u00a0 They haven\u2019t given up more than 7 points in any quarter this season which I find very impressive.\u00a0 If you score once in a quarter you are done.<\/p>\n

TCU is a true juggernaut as it is rare to find teams that are so dominant offensively and defensively.\u00a0 On the defensive side they are first in yards allowed and second in points allowed.\u00a0 On offense they are 8th in the nation in scoring at over 41ppg for an average margin of victory of more than 30 points.\u00a0 Some may criticize TCU coach Gary Patterson for not running up the score but I am confident that if they finish undefeated things will work out for them this season.<\/p>\n

The last two seasons TCU has beaten BYU and it hasn\u2019t been close.\u00a0 Although they were only small favourites each time they have won by 25 and 31 points, asserting their dominance over the Cougars.\u00a0 Sure the Cougars would love to spoil a dream season for TCU but if they are going to spoil it for anybody it seems more likely Utah would fall later in the season in the anual\u00a0 Holy War.\u00a0 BYU still has a strong name so even though they are having a down year whipping them will still help the Horned Frogs.<\/p>\n

The Pick:<\/strong> At home TCU should have no problem with this BYU team.\u00a0 The spread is high but given the play of Heaps it wouldn\u2019t surprise for the Horned Frogs to cover.<\/p>\n
