Boston College Eagles (2-3)<\/strong><\/p>\n

Remember when Boston College was 2-0? Me neither. The Eagles have dropped three consecutive games by a combined score of 94-30 since their hot start. The problem has been offense above all, as the Eagles average just 18 points per game.<\/p>\n

Quarterbacking has been a bit of a nightmare for Boston College. Dave Shinskie hasn\u2019t been the answer, throwing five touchdown passes versus six interceptions and completing only 47.9 per cent of his passes. Mike Marscovetra hasn\u2019t been any better when he\u2019s gotten the call, tossing four picks versus two interceptions. Can they blame their line? The two pivots have taken a combined 15 sacks in five games. [soliloquy id=”82219″]<\/p>\n

In the backfield, Montel Harris is doing the best he can, averaging 77.4 rushing yards per game, but he hasn\u2019t had many holes. And defenses can keep keying on him as long as the Eagles can\u2019t pass the ball. Boston College\u2019s defense hasn\u2019t been a total embarrassment despite the 44-17 loss to N.C. State last week; it\u2019s the lack of scoring ability that\u2019s killing the Eagles right now. Boston College averages just 10 points per game during its current three-game skid.<\/p>\n

(16) Florida State Seminoles (5-1)<\/strong><\/p>\n

Shinskie and the Boston College offense probably aren\u2019t sleeping very well this week. Florida State brings a formidable \u201cD\u201d to the table, averaging more than four sacks per game, so bettors can expect the Seminoles to bring the heat this Saturday.<\/p>\n

No. 16 Florida State also has plenty going for it offensively. Christian Ponder opened the season as a Heisman Trophy hopeful but faltered in Week 2 with a two-interception, no-touchdown flop against Oklahoma. Since then, however, he\u2019s recovered nicely. The Seminoles have won four straight and Ponder has six touchdown passes versus one interception over that span.<\/p>\n

Ponder also has strong support from the Seminoles\u2019 ground game. Churning out 298 rushing yards on the road against an athletic Miami Hurricanes defense last week was extremely impressive.<\/p>\n

The pick: <\/strong><\/p>\n

After the uplifting win against Miami last week, the Seminoles are certainly at risk of a letdown performance. With the spread at 22-plus points, bettors should be careful. In the end, though, I do expect FSU to deliver. Their powerhouse \u201cD\u201d should contain the anemic Boston College offense and their versatile offense shouldn\u2019t have too much trouble scoring. Expect a rout.<\/p>\n
