NBA news: Gilbert Arenas faked injury to get Nick Young a start<\/strong><\/p>\n Sigh. What are we going to do with you, Gilbert?<\/p>\n Gilbert Arenas already got into enough trouble last year, didn\u2019t he? With the gun incident and ensuing suspension? Apparently not. On Tuesday night, he sat with an unknown knee injury and rookie Nick Young moved into Washington\u2019s lineup to replace him.<\/p>\n Turns out Arenas was doing Young a favor. After the game, during which Young led the Wizards with 24 points, Arenas admitted that he faked his injury.<\/p>\n \u201cI know [Young\u2019s] kind of frustrated he\u2019s not getting a chance to crack the three position, especially since we\u2019re going three guards, so I told him I\u2019d go ahead and fake an injury or say something\u2019s wrong with me so you can start,\u201d Arenas said.<\/p>\n As good as his intentions may have been, Arenas naturally pissed off his team, who can\u2019t trust him going forward the next time he says he\u2019s hurt. The Wizards fined him an undisclosed amount of money.<\/p>\n NFL news: Brett Favre\u2019s iron-man streak in jeopardy? Update on Chargers\u2019 Merriman, McNeill, Jackson<\/strong><\/p>\n Though Brett Favre led a few vintage-looking drives last Monday night against the New York Jets, he noticeably clutched his elbow after making several throws. He\u2019s battling tendinitis and admitted Wednesday that his NFL record streak of 289 consecutive starts could end if the pain worsens. <\/p>\n Several key members of the San Diego Chargers are in the news this week. First off is Shawne \u201cLights Out\u201d Merriman. The Chargers placed the fallen star linebacker on injured reserve with a calf injury and \u201cminor injury designation\u201d yesterday. Once Merriman is healthy, the Chargers will release him.<\/p>\n The Marcus McNeill contract saga has finally ended. The Chargers signed their stud left tackle to a five-year, $48.5 million extension yesterday. The deal will pay him through 2015 and includes $24.5 million in guaranteed money. McNeill is expected to play this Sunday but may not start.<\/p>\n Now that Vincent Jackson appears to be stuck with San Diego, it looks like he\u2019ll report to the Chargers by October 31. Because of his roster exempt status, he isn\u2019t eligible to play until November 28.<\/p>\n NCAA football news: former agent admits to paying college players<\/strong><\/p>\n In light of the NCAA\u2019s probe into UNC, a former sports agent has spoken out about paying college players in the 1990s. In the October 18th<\/sup> edition of\u00a0Sports Illustrated, <\/em>Josh Luchs says he paid more than 30 players from 1990-96.<\/p>\n Some players confirmed his claim. Ryan Leaf took at least $10,000 \u2013 most of which he paid back after signing with another agent. Luchs says he didn\u2019t play players while working with Gary Wichard \u2013 the agent linked to the current investigation of North Carolina.
