Key players lost<\/strong> \u2013 Juwan Howard<\/p>\nHave the Trail Blazers peaked? No, probably not. But after winning at least 50 games in each of the last two seasons, and being expected to make The Leap sooner rather than later, you have to forgive Portland fans for growing a little impatient.<\/p>\n
Despite the pile of wins, Portland has lost in the first round of the playoffs two years counting. The Blazers are a rather young team, though, so you can\u2019t blame management for keeping the roster almost entirely intact.<\/p>\n
Of course, having a healthy Brandon Roy would certainly help. Roy is the team\u2019s leader, leading scorer and crunch-time killer, but he was severely limited by injury in the six-game loss to Phoenix. He played just three games in the series and was largely ineffective. Roy has missed far too many games over the past few seasons, but he supposedly underwent a new training regiment in the offseason to avoid the injury bug. ![\"Online](\"http:\/\/affiliates.commissionaccount.com\/processing\/impressions.asp?btag=a_3953b_41\")

LaMarcus Aldridge is Portland\u2019s next biggest weapon, but he\u2019s frustratingly inconsistent without Roy in the lineup. Aldridge ultimately had a disappointing playoff series against Phoenix, averaging 19 points per game when the Blazers needed him most. He makes a fine No. 2 option but, should Roy go down for any length of time, Aldridge can\u2019t be expected to pick up the slack.<\/p>\n
Speaking of big men who can\u2019t pick up the slack, Greg Oden is, in fact, still a Portland Trail Blazer. It just doesn\u2019t feel that way since he\u2019s missed 82 games over the last two years. At this point, the best Portland can hope for is a respectable rebounder who bangs a little bit\u2014not the return on investment you\u2019d hope for from a former No. 1 overall pick\u2014and even that might be a stretch. Oden, who won\u2019t play any preseason games, won\u2019t be ready for the season opener.<\/p>\n
As mentioned earlier, the core remains intact. Whether it\u2019s good enough to get over the hump remains to be seen. It\u2019s a very young core, so there\u2019s plenty of room for improvement\u2014unless Portland fans\u2019 worst fears come true and this team has already peaked.<\/p>\n
Surprising stat<\/strong>: Brandon Roy has missed at least 15 games twice in his four-year career.
\nStrengths<\/strong>: A talented young core in Roy and Aldridge.
\nWeaknesses<\/strong>: A wasted opportunity in Oden. Put Kevin Durant on this team\u2014the player Portland should have picked in the 2007 draft\u2014and the Blazers could have been building a dynasty.
\nPlayoffs?<\/strong> Yes, unless Roy gets hurt again.
