Kansas State Wildcats vs. Kansas Jayhawks Preview <\/strong><\/p>\n

Things have not gone well for the Kansas Jayhawks (2-3) so far this season, but they can get back to .500 both overall and in the Big 12 if they can beat their in state rivals Kansas State (4-1) at home this Thursday night. College betting lines have Kansas State as 3.5-point favorites in this game.<\/p>\n

Kansas has lost 2 of their last 3 games including getting spanked this last weekend. They are not playing well on both sides of the ball and they really need to get it going if they are going to make a bowl game this season. Winning in the next few weeks is vital for the Jayhawks, who have a killer late season schedule facing Nebraska, Oklahoma State, and Missouri in their last 3 games and all of those teams are currently ranked in the top 25.<\/p>\n

Kansas did not cover the spread last week and betting on them is a dicey situation, as they are 3-8 ATS in their last 11 games.<\/p>\n

October has not been a kind month for the Jayhawks in recent past, as they are 0-6 ATS in their last 6 games in that month.<\/p>\n

Kansas State had a ton of confidence going into last week\u2019s big game against Nebraska, but they were routed by the Huskers suffering their first loss of the season. They are 1-1 in Big 10 play and can get back to being a legit bowl team if they can beat Kansas this Thursday night.<\/p>\n

The Wildcats failed to cover the spread last week, but they may be a good bet since they are 6-2 ATS in their last 8 Big 12 games and 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games following a loss. \"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

In their last games Kansas was embarrassed losing to Baylor 55-7 and Kansas State was crushed by Nebraska 48-13.<\/p>\n

Heading into this Big 12 game both teams are 2-3 ATS this season.<\/p>\n

Kansas State will look to run the ball in this game, as they have the nation\u2019s 27th<\/sup> ranked rushing offense, but they only rank 107th<\/sup> in the nation in passing offense. RB Daniel Thomas (691 yards 6 TD) is the Wildcats\u2019 main weapon and he must play better than he did last week against Nebraska where he only rushed for 63 yards averaging a paltry 2.9 yards per carry. He should be able to do just that, as Nebraska has a great rushing defense and Kansas does not only ranking 95th<\/sup> in the nation.<\/p>\n

Against Baylor Kansas gave up 244 rushing yards and if they allow Thomas to go for big numbers they will be in for a long evening.<\/p>\n

The Jayhawks do not feature a dynamic offense, to say the least, ranking 84th<\/sup> in the nation in passing yards per game and 74th<\/sup> in rushing yards per game. Against Baylor in their last game they only had 270 total yards and they committed 4 turnovers.<\/p>\n

Since the Kansas defense is not a good one both QB Jordan Webb (796 yards 6 TD 3 INT) and RB James Sims (329 yards 3 TD) will have to play well for the Jayhawks. Both of these players had forgettable games in the blowout loss to Baylor and they need to get back on track. They have a good chance of doing that since the Kansas State defense only ranks 82nd<\/sup> in the nation.<\/p>\n

Sims will get a lot of carries in this game, as he will be facing a weak Kansas State rushing defense that ranks 116th<\/sup> in the nation out of 120 teams. Webb can help him out by completing some passes, but the Wildcats\u2019 pass defense is solid ranking 8th<\/sup> in the nation.<\/p>\n

This is a Big 12 match up and if you look at the ATS trends for Kansas it is not good since they have covered the spread in only once in their last 8 conference games.<\/p>\n

The team that can run the ball has a better chance to win this game and even though the Kansas State defense has really struggled against the run they have a better rushing attack. Kansas State will come out and win this game and cover the 3.5-point spread and have Sunflower State bragging rights.<\/p>\n
