OUR CAPPERS HAVE YOUR BACK —–>

Week 5 was wild and, for the most part, a train wreck on the betting front. We didn’t just see the normal slew of injuries; there were upsets galore.

Here’s hoping you threw some money down on a dog like Arizona and struck it rich on Sunday.

Bears 23, Panthers 6

Todd Collins was a nightmare for the Bears, throwing four interceptions, but it didn’t matter – for two reasons. For one, Jimmy Clausen and Matt Moore were just as bad for Carolina and, secondly, Matt Forte partied like it was Week 1 and erupted for 188 total yards and two scores.

Buccaneers 24, Bengals 21

I still don’t know if I’m a full believer but I can’t blame Tampa Bay fans for getting excited about Josh Freeman after this performance. He marched them down the field to tie the game in the fourth quarter and led them to an overtime victory on the road. I still can’t believe the Bucs are 3-1 and the Cowboys are 1-3.

Lions 44, Rams 6

We knew Sam Bradford would lay an egg eventually – he is still a rookie – but who expected that moment to come against the lowly Lions? Another intriguing storyline from this game: Shaun Hill’s three-touchdown effort. Is he one more strong outing away from hurting Matthew Stafford’s job security? Probably not, as the Lions aren’t a playoff team and will want to give their young gun reps when he’s healthy.

Giants 34, Texans 10

Sheesh. The Giants’ “D” did it again. Does Hakeem Nicks look like a superstar wideout or what? As good as Houston looked out of the gate, if it loses next week to Kansas City it’ll be back to its usual .500 perch – with the Colts waiting in Week 8.

Ravens 31, Broncos 17

Ray Rice finally busted out in this one, rushing for 133 yards and two touchdowns. This game was never in doubt but fantasy football players were at least thrilled to see Kyle Orton post yet another 300-yard game. When will the madness stop?

Falcons 20, Browns 10

I know it was just the Browns, but the Falcons’ defense is starting to look like one of the league’s best units. If they can keep it up along with their above average offense, the NFC South title is definitely within reach.

Colts 19, Chiefs 9

Can’t remember the last time Peyton Manning had a game this ugly. Watching it on TV, it felt like many of the incompletions were actually his fault. His throws looked off. But the best teams can still win ugly and the Colts are still one of the best in this league.

Jaguars 36, Bills 26

Is Ryan Fitzpatrick, who threw for 220 yards and three touchdowns, actually good or just good compared to Trent Edwards? Either way, he still wasn’t good enough to give Buffalo the win. The Bills surrendered 216 net rushing yards. I wouldn’t be surprised to see these guys go 0-16, especially with all three of their AFC East neighbours looking like playoff contenders.

Redskins 16, Packers 13 (OT)

Sunday couldn’t have gone worse for Green Bay. Jermichael Finley, Donald Lee, Clay Matthews and, worst of all, Aaron Rodgers all got hurt. Rodgers’ injury is a concussion so there’s no telling how much time he might miss. The banged up Packer “D” also took some silly penalties in overtime and couldn’t stop Donovan McNabb from moving the ball when it counted. He threw for 357 yards.

Cardinals 30, Saints 20

It’s not like Max Hall (168 passing yards, no touchdowns, one interception) or Beanie Wells (20 carries, 35 yards) beat the Saints. The Saints beat the Saints. Drew Brees threw an uncharacteristic three interceptions and the Cardinals scored two defensive touchdowns. Was New Orleans looking past Arizona or what?

Titans 34, Cowboys 27

I’d hate to be in Dallas’ locker room after this one. Tony Romo is a strange creature. On one hand, he put up big numbers, throwing for 406 yards and three touchdowns. On the other, he got picked off three times and couldn’t seem to lead the Cowboys downfield when it mattered most. Dallas has no choice but to stick with him for now.

Raiders 35, Chargers 27

Phil Rivers has thrown for 430-plus yards in two of his last three games – and lost both of those contests. The Chargers couldn’t stop the run or move the chains on the ground. I have to think they’ll come back angry against St. Louis next week. Still, 2-3 is disappointing for a team with one of the league’s easiest schedules.

Eagles 27, 49ers 24

As much as Mike Singletary wanted to yank Alex Smith, the guy still threw for 300-plus yards and three scores. Sure, some of that was on underneath routes late in the game, but the point is that San Fran’s defense was once again as big of a letdown as its offense in this one. The Eagles should be happy that Kevin Kolb looked significantly less terrified this time around.

The NFL odds are up on which teams will win the NFL in the 2010/2011 season!
