Chicago<\/strong><\/p>\n

Despite an ugly loss to the Giants last Sunday night the Bears are off to a better than expected start.\u00a0 Their 3-1 record includes a key victory over Green Bay and their offense was piling up a good amount of yards due to the combination of offensive coordinator Mike Martz passing schemes and the strong arm of QB Jay Cutler.<\/p>\n

It has already been announced that due to a concussion suffered last week Cutler will not start against the Panthers on Sunday. His backup is the venerable Todd Collins who I could have sworn was coaching a couple of seasons ago.\u00a0 Collins is a heady guy but even in his prime was never very highly thought of.\u00a0 He definitely does not possess the arm of Cutler and his presence as the starter leads many to believe the offense will stall, hence the very low total for the game.<\/p>\n

Unfortunately these are not the Bears of recent vintage who could beat you by running the ball and playing superior defense.\u00a0 Matt Forte has struggled in the running game due to poor offensive line play and it is that same poor offensive line that let Cutler get slaughtered by the Giants last week.\u00a0 Until they find a way to shore it up the Bears may not build upon their great start that much.\u00a0<\/p>\n

They also just might Todd Collins killed. \"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Carolina<\/strong><\/p>\n

While the Bears have exceeded expectations the Panthers certainly have not.\u00a0 One look at the roster shows a very young team but it is was one expected to be more like .500 not winless a month into the season.\u00a0 The team has not quit though and almost upset the defending Super Bowl Champion New Orleans Saints last week on the road.<\/p>\n

A result of their losing is that they are now trying out rooke QB Jimmy Clausen.\u00a0 Opening game starter Matt Moore was brutal in two starts but sadly Clausen has been almost as bad in his two starts.\u00a0 I never liked Clausen at Notre Dame and if he keeps it up we just might see another rookie at the reins in Tony Pike.\u00a0 At least he has a winning pedigree. (Sorry I can\u2019t resist and ND dig)<\/p>\n

The real shocker to the season for the Panthers\u00a0 is that the ground game hasn\u2019t clicked.\u00a0 Many tout DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart as the best running back duo in the NFL.\u00a0 They both rushed for over 1000 yards last year but this year has been a much different story.\u00a0 The offensive line hasn\u2019t produced and both backs have really struggled.\u00a0 Carolina is the lowest scoring team in the league.\u00a0 You are not going to win too many games averaging 11.5ppg.<\/p>\n

The Pick: <\/strong>Neither teams comes into the game feeling all that great about their chances.\u00a0 Carolina should have a home edge but with Clausen at QB they just might throw it away.\u00a0 This could easily be the most boring game of the year…but Carolina wins it.<\/p>\n
