Boston College<\/strong><\/p>\n

The quarterbacking situation in Chestnut Hill has been decidedly pathetic. Incumbent starter Dave Shinskie was finally replaced after dismal play; its apex being a 19-0 loss to Virginia Tech. In his collegiate debut last week, freshman Chase Rettig injured his ankle. Shinskie being demoted to third-string, Rettig\u2019s replacement Mike Marscovetra played decently in a 31-13 loss to Notre Dame. <\/p>\n

Rettig is listed as day-to-day, which is vexing for Eagles fans because capable pivot play is a must if BC is going to turn its season around. <\/p>\n

With better QB production, BC can surely get more out of RB Montel Harris, who is a known commodity and had a great 2009, but has slumped somewhat to this point.<\/p>\n

On the other side of the ball, the production is fueled by high-motor guys embodied by the tenacious and talented senior Mark Herzlich. While the offense has been fairly miserable, the defense is lobbying a valiant effort, only surrendering 20 points per and flirting with the Top 40 in total defense. \"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

If the Eagles can simply start to put some points on the board, the defense will make them competitive. However, the team is in for a challenge with the prolific NC State Wolfpack. Ultimately, Rettig (if he\u2019s healthy enough \u2013 he\u2019s being re-evaluated this week) or Marscovetra needs to be better than Shinskie.<\/p>\n

NC State<\/strong><\/p>\n

There is no such thing as quarterback stumbling for NC State. Sophomore Russell Wilson is having an excellent season thus far, tossing for 1,474 yards, 14 TDs and leading his team to wins against tough customers like Cincinnati and Georgia Tech. The Wolfpack did come up short last week against Virginia Tech, but they made a game of it, losing 41-30 against a team that was supposed to be in the conference\u2019s elite (but has mystified people instead).<\/p>\n

NC State doesn\u2019t run the ball as much, but the two-headed monster of Mustafa Greene and freshman Dean Haynes has been more than adequate. The Wolfpack has a stable of receivers and with Wilson\u2019s efficiency, it takes heat off the ground game. State currently registers in the Top 10 in the nation in passing offense.<\/p>\n

The Wolfpack\u2019s defense looks like the garage of an Autobahn lover, with stand-outs being Audie Cole and Audi Augustin. NC State has done well to generate pressure, they looked best a couple of weeks back when Cole and company harassed Cincy QB Zach Collaros into several mistakes. <\/p>\n

If the defense can apply pressure to whichever green Boston College quarterback is under center, it should put the game firmly in NC State\u2019s control.<\/p>\n

The Pick: <\/strong>The tale of the tape here really is all about the quarterbacks. Wilson and his ‘Pack are just too damned efficient while BC\u2019s pivot situation is simply in flux. <\/p>\n

Look for NC State to nab this game without much difficulty or fuss. The Wolfpack earn another win at home and continue their strong 2010 campaign.<\/p>\n
