This is an epic David vs. Goliath type matchup, and from first glance this would appear to be an easy win for the No. 5 Oregon Ducks. But we\u2019ve all seen stranger things happen in college football.<\/p>\n

And it almost did as the bungling Cougars took a 28-20 lead midway through the third quarter in its loss 42-28 loss to UCLA in Week 5.<\/p>\n

However, Washington State has to be one of the NCAA\u2019s worst teams in recent years, posting a PAC-10 worst record of 9 wins and 37 losses since the 2005 season until now. They haven\u2019t had a win outside the state of Washington since November 10, 2007 versus Stanford with their last victory against a Pac-10 opponent being against the Huskies in 2008. \"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

One bright spot \u2013 and there aren\u2019t many–is that Cougars do have a single win in 2010, and Nico Grassu sealed it as he kicked the game winning field goal with just over two minutes remaining to beat FCS opponent Montana State 23-22.<\/p>\n

So how does a team get this bad?<\/p>\n

Well, for starters the defense is giving up an average of 42.8 points per game and has lost by 48, 34, and 14-point differences in all three of this season\u2019s BCS tilts. If you look at one way, you could say they are improving.<\/p>\n

Offensively it just doesn\u2019t get any better for the Cougs, as over the past two seasons they have ranked 119th in total yards and have had more punting yards than total offensive yards in the same span.<\/p>\n

That being said, it\u2019s likely to be a long day for Wazzou as they try to contain an opponent that is scoring 56.6 points per game, and is coming off one of the most impressive wins in all of college football this season, as the Ducks came from behind to beat the No. 9 Stanford Cardinal 52-31 last Saturday.<\/p>\n

Oregon leads the FBS with 569.2 yards, and has outscored its opponents 114-7 in the second half this season, so the Cougars want to try not to fail behind early on.<\/p>\n

Wazzou has been outscored by the Ducks 168-27 and has lost the last three meetings, including a 63-14 defeat in Pullman in 2008.<\/p>\n

Last season the Ducks outgained the Cougars 514-158 en route to a 52-6 win.<\/p>\n

Since this article is about betting, I\u2019ve got to honestly say it\u2019s pointless to bet on the Cougars straight up. But the serious gambler may take the 35 points, and if Washington State can somehow continue the trend of losing by fewer points, he or she could walk away with some serious bones.<\/p>\n

Probably not, but I had to try.<\/p>\n
