2010 NFL Football Power Ratings<\/h2>\n

Each week during the heart of the NFL season, and once or twice during the NFL Preseason, we\u2019ll gather the troops around the roundtable and hash out the\u00a0NFL Power rankings<\/strong><\/a>. We check out the stats, looks at the records, and, most importantly, we take a close, close look at the heart of each team.<\/p>\n

The puppies are barking. Underdogs have covered at an amazing 37-23 rate so far this season, thanks to better-than-expected covers seasons from the Chiefs, Rams and Lions. Things could change in a hurry as lines settle down, the public catches on and weaker teams seek their own level.<\/p>\n

\t1. New York Jets (Last week 11)<\/strong>
\nThey\u2019ve run the table in the AFC East with wins over the Patriots, Dolphins and Bills.<\/p>\n

\t2. Pittsburgh Steelers (1) <\/strong>
\nBen Roethlisberger is back. Hide the women and children. Scratch that. Just hide the women.<\/p>\n

\t3. New Orleans (3<\/strong>)
\nSaints scoring is down 12 points a game from last year, but Cardinals should help fatten the number a bit this week.<\/p>\n

\t4. Baltimore Ravens (9)<\/strong>
\nRunning game has been OK, but Rice & Co. will have to step it up a bit when the cold weather arrives.<\/p>\n

\t5. Green Bay Packers (5)<\/strong>
\nAfter struggling with Detroit and Philly, maybe these guys are a bit overrated.<\/p>\n

\t6. New England Patriots (11)<\/strong>
\nGet used to BJGE. BenJarvus Green-Ellis, also known as the law firm, hits the holes faster than Maroney, is healthier than Taylor and could lead the league in YABH (yards after being hit).<\/p>\n

\t7. Atlanta Falcons (6)<\/strong>
\nAre the Falcons this year\u2019s Whodat team? Could be. Four winnable games are up next: Browns, Eagles, Bengals, Buccaneers.<\/p>\n

\t8. Houston Texans (8)<\/strong>
\nGary Kubiak says he\u2019s happy to have linebacker Brian Cushing back with the team. Spoken like a coach whose defense has given up 408 yards a game (dead last in the league).<\/p>\n

\t9. Kansas City Chiefs (7)<\/strong>
\nSo you\u2019ve beaten San Diego, Cleveland and San Francisco. As Shania Twain would say,\u00a0That don\u2019t impress me much<\/em>. Now, beat the Colts at Indianapolis and we can sit down and talk again. \"Sports<\/a><\/p>\n

\t10. Indianapolis Colts (4)<\/strong>
\nWith the sons of vampire Bill Polian it\u2019s always all about Peyton Manning. But . . . they are down yet another starting safety (Melvin Bulitt). Oil isn\u2019t yet starting to leak yet, but it might be a good idea to take it into the shop anyway.<\/p>\n

\t11. Chicago Bears (2)<\/strong>
\nHuge drop for the cubs. Just wondering why they couldn\u2019t adjust to the Giants\u2019 pass rush the same way they changed things around against the Cowboys.<\/p>\n

\t12. New York Giants (23)<\/strong>
\nMaybe they were just due for a good game. Whatever. But they\u2019re still a factor in the NFC East, which is looking a lot like the AFC West in 2008.<\/p>\n

\t13. Minnesota Vikings (18)<\/strong>
\nFourteen days without a game. Wonder if Favre is spending it on his farm in Mississippi?<\/p>\n

\t14. Dallas Cowboys (19)<\/strong>
\n100 percent true: In Taunton, Mass. There is a restaurant with the following notice on it\u2019s sign:\u00a0Dez Bryant, Please Eat here.<\/em><\/p>\n

\t15. Tennessee Titans (15)<\/strong>
\nWith four of the next five on the road, the Titans could be flat-lining before turkeys even start to get slaughtered for Thanksgiving.<\/p>\n

\t16. San Diego Chargers (21)<\/strong>
\nWith the Chiefs making a little noise in the AFC West, the Chargers have to start doing some business. Fortunately they are at Oakland and then at St. Louis.<\/p>\n

\t17. St. Louis Rams (26)<\/strong>
\nWould it surprise you to know that the Rams have score the most points and given up the fewest in the NFC West?<\/p>\n

\t18. Washington Redskins (25)<\/strong>
\nI\u2019ll take impossibly inconsistent and hard-to-read NFL teams for a hundred, Alex.<\/p>\n

\t19. Jacksonville Jaguars (24) <\/strong>
\nWin over the Colts made a mess of the AFC South.<\/p>\n

\t20. Cincinnati Bengals (14)<\/strong>
\nDefenses are starting to bunch up to stop Cedric Benson, but that hasn\u2019t helped the offense too much \u2013 Bengals are 6th<\/sup> in passing yards and only 14th<\/sup> in scoring.<\/p>\n

\t21. Miami Dolphins (12)<\/strong>
\nCheer up guys. You get to play the Bills again, on Dec. 19.<\/p>\n

\t22. Philadelphia Eagles (13)<\/strong>
\nAsante Samuel has a concussion. Couldn\u2019t have come from making a tackle.<\/p>\n

\t23. Denver Broncos (22)<\/strong>
\nDoesn\u2019t seem possible, but Maroney has been worse with the Broncos than he was with New England.<\/p>\n

\t24. Seattle Seahawks (16)<\/strong>
\nSure bet: Take the Seahawks on the money line when they play at home. Fade them on the road. Next week \u2013 at Chicago. You can take it from there.<\/p>\n

\t25. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (20)<\/strong>
\nNo sacks in three games, but Bucs insist they like what they\u2019re seeing from tackle Gerald McCoy.<\/p>\n

\t26. Arizona Cardinals (17)<\/strong>
\nGetting the feeling that NFC West teams are going to have to be satisfied with winning games only in their division.<\/p>\n

\t27. Detroit Lions (28)<\/strong>
\nThere is no way to underestimate what a victory over Green Bay would have done for this franchise, which is actually approaching mediocrity. BTW, Matthew Stafford is starting to throw again\u00a0\u00a0but probably won\u2019t play this week against the Rams.<\/p>\n

\t28. Cleveland Browns (32)<\/strong>
\nJust when the flame gets close to Eric Mangini\u2019s ample backside, the Browns win a game and save his job.<\/p>\n

\t29. San Francisco 49ers (29)<\/strong>
\nThe Alex Smith body of work is growing larger, and it looks like they are going to have to explore other real estate to find their franchise QB.<\/p>\n

\t30. Oakland Raiders (27)<\/strong>
\nRaiders had smallest home crowd in four decades last Sunday. Time for Al Davis to start thinking about moving the team again.<\/p>\n

\t31. Carolina Panthers (31)<\/strong>
\nA for effort against the Saints. Had they hung on, the Panthers would have set the record for knocking out 4,634,507 survivor pool contestants.<\/p>\n

\t32. Buffalo Bills (30)<\/strong>
