The Bruins (2-2) pulled off the improbable beating No. 7 Texas in Austin, 34-12 on Saturday, snapping Texas\u2019 16-game winning streak at Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium.<\/p>\n

However, it wasn\u2019t the first time UCLA has stunned the Longhorns. It happened once before 13 years ago in what is commonly referred to as \u201cRout 66\u201d; the day a winless UCLA squad thumped the 11th-ranked Longhorns, 66-3, in what is one of Texas’ most embarrassing losses at home.<\/p>\n

It was a much different UCLA team than what showed up two weeks earlier in a 35-0 loss to Stanford at the Rose Bowl. The Bruins forced four first-half turnovers and racked up 264 yards on the ground against the nation’s No. 2 rushing defense, behind a solid effort from RB Johnathan Franklin who had his second consecutive 100-yard game, running for 118 yards and a touchdown. \"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Derrick Coleman added 94 yards and a TD and quarterback Kevin Prince picked his spots for 50 yards. However, it wasn\u2019t all good for Prince as he was just 5-of-8 for 27 yards passing and continues to be plagued by drops. Prince was also sacked four times.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile in Pullman, the Cougars (1-3) woes continued as they were handed their 12th straight loss to an FBS opponent, losing to USC for the eight straight time, 50-16.<\/p>\n

Just like Texas, they too were the victim of turnovers. WSU QB Jeff Tuel completed 24 of 37 passes — eight to WR Jared Karstetter — for 222 yards and a touchdown, but was intercepted three times in the contest by a youthful USC secondary that has struggled in coverage. Something they cannot afford to do against a much-improved UCLA defense led by linebacker Akeem Ayers.<\/p>\n

Ayers led the defensive effort at Texas with six tackles and an interception, and his sack included a forced fumble. He should have a field day against the Cougars, the dregs of the Pac-10 and a cupcake if there ever was one.<\/p>\n

On the other hand, the Cougs\u2019 defense, well it\u2019s simple, they rank fourth worst in the nation for points against, but they did at least prove to be opportunistic, forcing three first-half turnovers to keep the game against USC within reach at halftime at 28-13.<\/p>\n

The Cougars were clearly the worst team in the PAC-10 heading into the 2010 season, and with the exception of beating Montana State 23-22, have proven very little to suggest they will do any better. The offense ranks 101st<\/sup> overall in points scored and they are anemic on the road, not having won a game outside the state of Washington since they beat UCLA on October 28 of 2006.<\/strong><\/p>\n

If the Cougars want any chance of snatching the win against a Bruins team that will likely be riding on the fumes from last week\u2019s upset at Texas, they will need to quickly put together some kind of running game. And I mean some kind\u2026.any kind. WSU had just 67 yards rushing on 26 attempts, 23 coming on a scramble by Tuel against the Trojans.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s unlikely Washington State can pull all the resources together that they will need to beat ULCA, so you can expect another blowout as the Bruins win this one easily at home.<\/p>\n
