No. 21 Texas Longhorns vs. No. 8 Oklahoma Sooners Preview <\/strong><\/p>\n

In the HUGE Red River Rivalry game held at the Cotton Bowl the 21st<\/sup> ranked Texas Longhorns (3-1) face the 8th<\/sup> ranked Oklahoma Sooners (4-0). College football lines have the Sooners as 3.5-point favorites in this game with a total of 56.<\/p>\n

Texas is 1-0 in the Big 12 while this is the first conference game for Oklahoma.<\/p>\n

This game has big BCS implications, as the loser will have the inside track to win the Big 12 South. However, while Oklahoma still has National Championship implications Texas may be out of that picture with the shocking loss to UCLA last week at home no less. The Sooners may have to win this game to keep their national title hopes alive.<\/p>\n

The Sooners have the nation\u2019s 10th<\/sup> ranked passing offense and for the Longhorns to win this game their secondary will have to play well.<\/p>\n

Unlike the past few seasons Oklahoma has really struggled on defense where they rank 97th<\/sup>.<\/p>\n

The Sooners have not beaten the Longhorns since the 2007 season.<\/p>\n

In their last games Texas was embarrassed losing at home to UCLA 34-12 while Oklahoma beat a tough Cincinnati team 31-29.<\/p>\n

Heading into this Big 12 match up both of these teams are 1-3 ATS this season. \"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Both teams played pretty sloppy last week, as Texas committed 5 turnovers while Oklahoma only committed one, but they were penalized 13 times for 113 yards.<\/p>\n

Oklahoma and their great passing attack is led by Heisman candidate QB Landry Jones, who was 36\/51 for 370 yards with 2 TD and 1 INT in the win over Cincinnati. The Texas pass defense is one of the best in the nation ranking 6th<\/sup> only allowing an average of 128.5 yards per game through the air. They will especially have to cover Jones\u2019 main target in WR Ryan Broyles, who caught 10 balls for 100 yards in last week\u2019s win.<\/p>\n

Texas has to get to Jones and their pass rush has been solid this season with the 6th<\/sup> most sacks (14).<\/p>\n

Texas is great defending the pass, but even though they rank 20th<\/sup> in run defense their weakness is defending the run. In last week\u2019s loss to UCLA they only gave up 27 passing yards to UCLA, but they allowed the Bruin to run ragged with 264 rushing yards.<\/p>\n

The Sooners have the nation\u2019s 88th<\/sup> ranked rushing offense and their main man is RB Demarco Murray. Murray was an early season Heisman candidate, but he has not played great in the last few games. In 2 of his last 3 games he has not averaged 4 yards per carry and in the win over Cincinnati he only averaged a whopping 2.4 yards per carry.<\/p>\n

The Longhorns rank 60th<\/sup> on offense and they are led by Garrett Gilbert, who did not have a bad game against UCLA going 30\/45 for 264 yards with 1 TD and 1 INT. However, he fumbled once, along with the 1 INT, and he was pressured all game long by UCLA, who took away his deep threats.<\/p>\n

The Sooners may want to take a page from the Bruins\u2019 playbook used against Texas, but their pass defense only ranks 90th<\/sup> in the nation and against Cincinnati they gave up 305 passing yards.<\/p>\n

Oklahoma has 11 sacks this season (ranking 22nd<\/sup> in the nation) and they may have to get to Gilbert so the strong-armed QB does not pick apart the mediocre OU secondary.<\/p>\n

Texas has the 76th<\/sup> ranked rushing offense, but they may move up in that ranking since they face an Oklahoma rushing defense that only ranks 93rd<\/sup> in the nation and gave up 156 rushing yards last week against Cincinnati.<\/p>\n

Oklahoma has had their issues on defense, but they will come out and play well and while Texas will bounce back and make this a close game the Sooners will win and cover the spread.<\/p>\n
