Week Three: Cincinnati at Carolina Preview\/Pick<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Cincinnati<\/strong><\/p>\n

After being embarrassed in week one at New England, the Bengals picked up a big win over the Baltimore Ravens last weekend. It was the defense that let them down in game one, but it was the defense that shouldered the load in game two.<\/p>\n

The Bengals offense really hasn\u2019t been very impressive so far this year. After Terrell Owens was signed many started calling Ocho Cinco and Owens the dynamic duo, but they haven\u2019t done too much yet this year. Carson Palmer has only thrown one pick so far this year, but he just doesn\u2019t look like the same franchise quarterback he did a few years ago. This passing offense has plenty of potential, but they have a lot of room for improvement. The running game was the reason the Bengals were so successful last year, and the Bengals need to get Cedric Benson going once again this year.<\/p>\n

The Cincinnati defense didn\u2019t show up in week one, but they were stellar in last week\u2019s win over Baltimore. The Bengals intercepted Joe Flacco four times and only yielded 10 points against a Ravens offense with a whole lot of weapons. The Bengals are a little weak at the safety spot, but they have one of the best cornerback tandems in the NFL with Joseph and Hall. The linebackers are quick and will get to the football very well. Dhani Jones is a doing great job as a leader for this defense. \"Sports<\/a><\/p>\n

Carolina<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Panthers have started the season 0-2 and John Fox has decided it is time for Jimmy Clausen to get the starting nod this weekend against the Bengals. Matt Moore didn\u2019t perform well, so it is up to Clausen to try and get this offense rolling.<\/p>\n

The Panthers offense still has some quality talent at the skill positions. DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart make a nice tandem of running backs and Steve Smith is still a force on the outside. Moore\u2019s four interceptions in the first two games hurt this team badly, so it will be up to Clausen to cut down on the big mistakes. It is a bit of a tough assignment for Clausen, since the Bengals defense is very opportunistic. It will be crucial for the Panthers that they establish the running game early against Cincinnati.<\/p>\n

The Carolina defense has a lot of new names this year, but they should still be a pretty good unit. Right now they have some key players dinged up. Thomas Davis will be out at least three or four more games, and Chris Gamble is questionable for this weekend\u2019s game with an ankle injury. The key for this defense will likely be their ability to defend the pass. Carson Palmer isn\u2019t a mobile guy, so if they can put pressure on him they will likely have some success stopping the aerial attack of the Bengals.<\/p>\n

The Pick:<\/strong><\/p>\n

Jimmy Clausen has a tough assignment here against a very solid secondary and I think it is pretty likely that he\u2019ll make some mistakes and turn the ball over. The Bengals offense will likely show some improvement over last week\u2019s performance. I think the Bengals -3 is the play in this one.<\/p>\n
