New England Patriots vs. New York Jets Preview<\/strong><\/p>\n

So how does that futures bet on the Jets to win the Super Bowl look right about now?<\/p>\n

All you have to know about the State of the Jets could be seen in Rex Ryan\u2019s post-game press conference after Monday night\u2019s loss to Baltimore. The T-Rex was subdued almost to the point of humility, the braggadocio depressed by the knowledge that Game 2 is upcoming against the suddenly-powerful-looking Patriots, then it\u2019s on the road for Games 3 and 4.<\/p>\n

The Jets, favored by some to win the Super Bowl this season, are 2-point DOGS at home against New England, and everywhere he turns Ryan is bombarded by bad news \u2013\u2013 nose tackle Kris Jenkins out for the season, a quarterback who has no one\u2019s confidence, a running game that looks overwhelmed (Shonn Greene) or too old (LaDainian Tomlinson), and NFL snoops looking into the team\u2019s boorish locker room behavior regarding a female reporter.<\/p>\n

The Jets converted on only one of 11 third-down plays in that epic 10-9 loss to the Ravens, and while the Patriots defense isn\u2019t quite up to Baltimore standards, New England looked pretty damn good without the ball against the Bengals. The Pats have converted to a speed defense similar to the one the Colts had in their Super Bowl-winning team a few seasons ago. They swarm to the ball, and safety Patrick Chung (13 tackles vs. Cincinnati) appears ready for a breakout year. \"Sports<\/a><\/p>\n

The AFC East Border War gives New England and Randy Moss a chance to bury the memories of last season. Tom Brady was in just his second game back from ACL surgery when the Jets surprised NE in New York. The Pats picked off Mark Sanchez four times in a win in New England later in the season, but Moss \u2013\u2013 blanketed by Darrelle Revis \u2013\u2013 was a non-factor in both games.<\/p>\n

New England’s diversified offense may cause problems for even the Jets\u2019 defense. Moss will take Revis deep and Wes Welker is at about 95 percent efficiency. But the keys could be rookie tight ends Aaron Hernandez and Rob Gronkowski. If the Jets bring safety help on Moss, the rooks could find plenty of space 20 to 30 yards over the middle, leaving the Jets with the uncomfortable decision of whether to give Revis help with Moss over the top, or leave Revis one-on-one and risk a deep ball.<\/p>\n

THE PICKS: Is there enough time for the Jets to get things straightened out by Sunday afternoon? <\/strong><\/p>\n

The Pats had their own distraction when Moss called out the team over his contract status, but in true Patriots manner that was put to bed quickly by Bill Belichick. You have to figure Belichick, Moss and Brady will be ready for this one after getting embarrassed in the second half against the Jets in New York last season. Pats should be able to cover 2. Even at 38 the under is the pick here.<\/p>\n

At the rate they\u2019re going, the Jets won\u2019t have 50 total points by the time the leaves change in upstate New York.<\/p>\n
