The Texas Southern Tigers out of the IAA SWEC head east to tangle with the Big East Connecticut Huskies in an early Saturday afternoon start in Hartford. <\/p>\n

Texas Southern (0-1) was hoping for a better result than last season\u2019s opening day 17-7 loss to Prairie View A&M Panthers, but as Yogi Berra says \u201cIt was d\u00e9j\u00e0 vu all over again\u201d as the Tigers fell to the Panthers once again on opening day 16-14.<\/p>\n

QB Arvell Nelson had a rough day behind center as he completed less than 53 percent of his passes and threw four interceptions including one that was returned 72 yards for a touchdown. While the Tigers struggled to move the ball through the air, they did manage to gain 167 yards on the ground led by RB Marcus Wright\u2019s 92 yards on 18 carries. They will need a heavy dose of this again to have any chance in this game. \"NFL<\/a><\/p>\n

Connecticut came into its opener against Michigan with high hopes for this season. Many experts believed that the Huskies were the team to beat in the Big East this year. While the disappointing 30-10 loss to the Wolverines does not have an impact on the conference standings, it does make you rethink just how good this team really is.<\/p>\n

Huskies QB Zach Frazer also had a rough start to his season, completing just 48.6 percent of his passes against a stingy Michigan secondary. He ended the day going 18-for-37 for just 205 yards. The only bright spot in the passing game was WR Michael Smith\u2019s three catches for 87 yards. RB Jordan Todman did run for 105 yards on 20 carries, but for the most part the entire Huskies\u2019 offense looked out of sync\u00a0 against a better prepared and coached Wolverine team.<\/p>\n

This will be the first meeting between these two teams although they both had Rutgers as a common opponent last season. The Tigers were blown out by the Scarlet Knights on the road 42-0 while the Huskies lost to them at home 28-24 as a 7 \u00bd point favorite. Other than that these two teams have very little in common with one another.<\/p>\n

Texas Southern did win five of its last six games after the loss to Rutgers to close out the 2009 season with a 6-5 record. The Tigers were 2-5 straight up on the road last year. There were no published lines on those games so there is no record against the spread.<\/p>\n

Connecticut is 5-5 SU in its last 10 games and 7-3 ATS. The Huskies are 3-1 SU and 2-2 ATS at home in their last four games.<\/p>\n

Looking to quickly erase the memory of\u00a0 last week\u2019s ugly loss the Wolverines, Connecticut should come out firing on all cylinders against a IAA team that struggles to compete within its own conference. The Tigers will put up little resistance as the Huskies win in a romp.<\/p>\n
